All thumbs!

I have only one thing to say on this.

WE WANT PICS, :D:D:D:D

What do they all think of it. Bet there gonna love it.:D:D:D:D

I have looked around and found some of the maila hemp. If these are made in multiple numbers then they could be made really quite cost effectively (based on 5x3 feet with 6x6 inch openings). Each according to the simple plan that I did up would require 112 feet of 5/8 inch width rope. This site http://webriggingsupply.com/pages/catalog/rope/rope-3strand-manila.html#A sells it by the 600 foot roll (I know, ALLOT) for $180 which would yield just about 5.5 climbing things. Each to make this way would be $32.73 from the 600 foot length or $42.56 at $0.38 per foot. Through http://www.avianlove.com/category/Get_A_Grip/c85 the same thing is going for $134.95 - can you say ouch!?!?

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I was thinking that these could be made really easily on our own and if anyone would maybe be interested in splitting a roll of this size rope (which is 5/8 opposed to their 3/4 inch thickness - not a huge difference and the rigging site sells the 3/4 inch as well for I think it is $0.10 more a foot when bought per foot - the 600 foot roll is cheaper per foot). It would have to be like 4 or 5 of us though to make it worth it. Anyways if anyone is interested maybe we can work something out.

 indigo, are you an artistic, mathematical, engineer? ;) (remember, i've no imagination, am NOT a handy person, and just learned to tie my shoes last week ... --- anyone with your type of skills is a genius! LOL).

You prolly better count me out on your venture ... but I will be keeping up on your progress! And, yes, I did say "Ouch!" (twice, when I paid for the rope grid AND when I got the evil eye from my husband after I told him how much I'd spent! OOOoops!).

Thanks for that Abaca info! :D

you are most welcome and yah i will let ya know if anything comes of it. i was also thinking i could make them and sell them ... maybe see if there are any natural dyes i could use to make them colorful, and yes, i am artistic and have a mathematical mind of sorts. how i initially figured to make them wouldnt work (would not last) but i will come up with a way *rubs her hands together*

probably can find some net making instructions on this here internet thingy

i'm quite impressed! i'm, now, pulling out my digital camera and loading disc ... need to brush up on how to use this thing again (been a while). I'll get some pics today and upload them into my photobucket ... I'll take some close-ups of the knots.

It looks kind of plain right now ... no toys or flash stuffs on it yet. I put Moj on it last evening and WOW WOW he thought it was way too cool. It sways when he walks (kind of like a tree limb/branch might high up in the air) (there we go with that motion-sickness thing again! ROFL!) ... I've installed it in a "hammock-like" fashion (running out of room in my office/bird room so it had to go in the entry to the office, next to Moj's cage). It was funny because we had hid some nuts in the knots and put Mojo out on it to check it out -- as soon as Moj had found all the nuts, he went and let himself back into his cage! Pretty cute, tummy full, ready for a nap ...

Ok, I'm stalling, I better get my tush in gear and get to this digital camera stuff ... :47:

oh a close up on the knots would be excellent! thanks!

i am going to go lay down for a while but i will check when i am consious again.

ooo you guys! I got my software loaded, camera working ... and snapped off a few pics! (now, need to re-remember how to download them ... hope i got some good ones!).

indigo ... i'm not getting too good of shots of the knots, but i'll keep working at it, k?

i put Cecil on the hammock and she was so freightened  :( she flew away, twice. I gently played step-up ladder with her until the last step was up onto the hammock and she finally made her way up by herself.

Moj, i'm a bit perplexed with, enjoys the hammock (and the swaying movement), going rung to rung, but he always gets off the hammock and back into his cage ... hmm, (he seems to like his time while he is on it tho.).

i got one pic of Moj and Cec beaking it out ... one was all i could manage as my nerves still get the best of me and i put the camera down -- trying to restrain myself from intervening.

... ok, let's see how the download works! wish me luck!! LOL

Ok, I've got them uploaded to my photobucket ... be sure and look at the Beak Wrestling one    *Deanna passes out*

The hammock is sure to overwhelm Timothy, so it is not even a thought to put him out on it at this time. We save our play, one-on-one time for the bedroom (safer, less wiring, more padding ... less to overwhelm his fearful senses).

Enjoy! :38:

They are certainly liking that. The pics are great, I love em. :D

I'm waiting for a pic of Timothy :( so I can snag it for my page. :D

I knew you were gonna say that Peta! LOL ... Dan is out fishing today (he has to be my camera man to get a pic of Timmy -- I trust Moj and Cec, but I don't trust Tiny Tim to his own devices whilst I fumble around with a camera!) ... as soon as he is back, I'll hogtie him (Dan, that is! :p ) and get him to snap a few shots of me and Timothy playing. ;)

Ah ha! Mojo showed me that he could get *into* his cage from the hammock, but not on to the hammock from his cage. So ... Popcorn to the Rescue! I popped up some popcorn and put it all over the hammock and 'lo and 'behold, Mojo found his way from his cage, onto the hammock all by himself! :D

OK, I am sorry that I missed the new stuff in here ... you gals were all talkin' about me and I wasn't even here ... I see how this works ...

I have been known to screw-up a few stud finders ... :p

Indigo, here is some windex, I think your mirror might be a little dirty! :D

How did the hanging go anyway? I would love to get a cargo net for my guys ... I am still not sure that the one that I made is all that OK for them ... besides the knots aren't all that good and the rope is sliding all over the place ... I really need one of these things for my guys ...

Well, Stud-muffin Tex, lemme tell ya' ... we have two stud finders and even though you are many states away, I got so overheated with all the Stud talk, I blew each of their batteries and not a one of them worked properly!

LOL ... On a serious note, actually, neither one of the stud finders was working properly, we have pencil marks all over the ceiling as to where studs are *supposed* to be ... we drilled about 10 dead holes only to reach air (no stud). So, we went back to caveman methods and pounded on the ceiling with our fists and a blunt hammer ... drilled with a tiny bit until we hit wood. We had NO arguments, though our frustration levels were on (scale of 1 - 10) about a 12+ ... I did ALMOST fall off the ladder, but caught myself on Mojo's cage, to which Mojo promptly retaliated and nearly bit me! (I deserved it!). Anyway, we found four studs to hold it ... NOT in the placement where I wanted but right, smack dab in the doorway to my office. So, any entrance requires that you bend, tuck and duck. It doesn't matter, now though, as the birdies just love having it. So, I will make do (no biggie really). No blood was shed, a power drill was used--however-- ... it was used while standing ON a ladder -- that is a worker's comp claim waiting to happen!!!!

We are all happy now, and I've had a laid back, kick-back day today and put the brats (ack, I said "brats" again, I MEANT birds :p), out on the hammock for the better part of the day ... they've had a ball!!!

Tex post a pic of your cargo net? If possible ...

A note to all with nets and rope toys ... we had a Parrotlet nearly striangulated by a 4" fray in a rope ... rope toys need to be kept clipped down to about 2'ish inches so they cannot get caught in the fray.

Dan was the one that spotted our Parrotlet in distress ... man, we moved like lightening, I grabbed him up and held him to get breath while Dan got the scissors ... I got the tar bitten out of me (deservedly so), but we got him cut out of it just in time.

Anyway, that is why I was a little disappointed in the net I got ... it came with about 6 inches of frayed rope all the way around. I cut it down to 2" straight away.
