All the tricks Salty uses for training

These are all the little toys and stuff we use during Salty training sessions. Most are little things from the baby section of the toys store.

The yellow ring he goes thru back and forth, the colored rings were the expensive part, he stacks those on the proper posts, his xylophone was a baby toy, the animals were cheap toys, the bowl and balls were inexpensive or household things as was the chop stock. His harness well enough very Ryan one knows what those are for.

I like the going-through-the-hoop thing the best.
At one year, Salty does more tricks than the Rbird. I wish you'd open a boarding school for parrots.

Nice, Al! That's the kind of variety that keeps a bird engaged and interested in the training sessions. Intelligent as they are, variety is key to keeping them happy rather than bored.

Right, variation is key. Like the big yellow ring, he is learning now how to put himself thru it. Before that, I held it while he would go thru it. Now he holds it and kinda flips it up and goes thru it himself.

He knows his jobs... to sing and make noise, making daddy smile and laugh by getting scratchies, and to do his tricks in the evening. He loves his job.

And I'm still struggling with basic target training with Goofy. Sigh. Of course Goofy is a stubborn, 32yo YNA and I am most decidedly NOT his human. He'd probably be more cooperative with MrC.

Goofy is trainable, YNA are among the most trainable parrots, I'm my opinion. You just need the right treat. What does he go crazy for? Say it's pine nuts. That treat should only come from you. And any action by goofy that is close to your goal should be rewarded, immediately when he does the action. That's important. Even the slightest action..... if it's target Training, just looking at the spot or stick, reward.

Goofy would, to borrow a phrase from you, change a transmission for a bit of cheese.

He is slowly warming up, but he's taking a long time, as he started off terrified of the target stick. I think he'd probably be learning much faster if MrC was doing the training, as he's the favorite human. So combine all those factors and it's just slow. He'll get there, but it'll take a while.

Wow, some great training toys there! My problem is finding the time to work with them each day, especially with 4 birds and two young human kids! LOL!

Blanca, the first few tricks took time, now he gets new tricks in a time or 2. Like the animals, he learned in 2 times the difference between a lamb and a bear. I started with teaching him turn in a circle, just by making him follow the treat . After awhile he would turn in circles just be giving him the command
