After 9 months of owning what I thought to be a male, year and a half old b&g macaw has turned out to be a female. This doesn't really bother me but I was just concerned about how much truth was told to me by the breeder. Is there any way I can find out roughly how old she is and are they much differences overall of owning a female rather than a male??

Since I wont be getting another bird I think Hahnzel will remain unsexed. I see him as a boy and info to the contrary might be weird...now if he lays an egg...

There usually isn't any different care for a male or a female parrot other than egg laying. With a female you have to keep a eye on them so they don't get "egg bound". Good luck and enjoy your baby.

Just curious if the breeder actually told you she was DNA sexed as a male, or it was kind of an "assumed" thing? There truly is no way of telling with most species of parrots until they have been DNA sexed or a sexually mature female lays an egg (a lot of people just "assume" their sex). As Critterman stated, females really aren't any different care-wise than males. Some females will lay infertile eggs after they go through puberty, but not every female will. Your still at least 5 years away from puberty with your baby, so that shouldn't be a concern right now, and you can kind of deal with that hurdle if it happens in the future.

You are lucky you found out so soon

We had Mishka for 3 years before we found out he was a male. Always though of him as "her"

I actually had no problem, soon enough he was saying "mommy Mishka is a boy"
