Hello,
a friend of mine had a breeding pair what got 2 babies but the female died after 5 weeks and the male stopped feeding the babies
one of the babies died and he gave me the other as i have some experience with hand feeding baby parrots (but not african grey)
the baby is eating well (3 times now) but he still afraid of people
he start to get out of his box and put him in the his cage with his box, so in case he left the box he still safe in the cage bottom
my questions are below
- for how long i should keep him in the box
- when should i start provide fresh foods for him to try
- should i introduce toys now and what kind (he has a child teddy bear)
- how should i play with him and what to do to make him used to people

all comments are welcome

Hello thekarens
thank you for the reply, he i sweet and he make us forgot about his mother death

You can keep him in a glass tank if you'd like until he's gain a bit more feathers and ready to fledge then move him into a cage.

He is adorable, such beautiful innocent eyes

I reckon you are trying to rush into too much at the moment.
Give the bird time to adjust, remember everything is new and it can be rather scary for the bird.
Just take it one day at a time, your bird will let you know is he/she is not happy believe me.

Where does he/she sleep, still in the box?

What else are you feeding your birds, besides the formula and pellets.

Stick to the one toy at the moment, if your bird is happy with it. In time other soft toys can get introduced.

Try let a few people handle your bird, even feeding it the formula, this will give the bird an opportunity to bond with different people.

Hello,
today my parrot is 8 weeks old, he is in his cage now and he start to discover the cage and climb it
last week i had a bad situation and i need your advise
the formula i use is finished and i cannot find the same brand and i only found kaytee exact high fat, i used it and the parrot love it but after 2 days of food he start to Vomiting after hand feed
i stopped it as i read i have to introduce it gradually
currently i'm using a baby food and he is ok (4 days after this happens)

currently i hand feed 2 times a day (morning and night) and he has seeds, and vegetable (carrot and colored paper) in cage all the day and he eat it

should i try again the exact (i read good news about it) and how to introduce it gradually

he is still sometimes afraid, but he is better

here is some pics sitting on me and playing with food

Hello,

I have an african grey and got him when he was 6 weeks old. At first he was a little bit afraid but I kept him with me most of the time the first few days and after that he didn't want to be away from me, he would sleep on my chest for hours at a time!

I hand fed him for at least 4-5 months until one day he started eating seeds on his own. Your bird will let you know when it's time to stop hand feeding.

As an advice, if you have him in a cage (depending on the size since mine is a large one), I put a piece of cardboard on the bottom on the gage so he could walk and placed another piece in the middle (as a ceiling) so he could not climb too high and then fall and hurt himself.

Good luck! Baby birds are adorable!

thank you Fercaro23 for the reply
i have a new question
could a baby parrot over feed
mine want to eat all the time
i feed him twice a day about 60-100 cc and he also eat a full cup of vegetable
and almost a cup of seeds (that is kept in the cage for all the day)
i guess this is too much, should i decrease the food either the hand feeding quantity or the left in the cage
