1 Jenday Conure
I am looking for some advice on my Jenday Conure. He is roughly 7 months old. He was such a sweet bird and very calm. Lately he has turned into a little monster. When I take him out of his cage he rolls around in my lap trying to grab my fingers and bite. Whenever I walk away from him in his cage he screams. He picks at my face when he is on my shoulder and when I put up my hand to stop him he gets mad and bites. Also a concern of mine is his chewing. He ruins at least one toy a day. I am talking large parrot toys. Is that normal? Any advice is appreciated. I've only owned parakeets and cockitiels. So a Conure is very new to me.

Welcome to the world of birds......
It's in a birds nature to chew anything and everything, destroying it totally.

Big debate here about a bird on your shoulder, sure many members will give their opinions.
I personally advise never to have a bird on the shoulder, you NEVER know if the bird is going to bite you, not intentionally, he might get a fright etc.

[FONT=&quot]To gain your trust could take days, weeks, months even years. Each and every bird is so different. He obviously feels a comfort zone is his cage.
Sit near the cage, talking and singing to the bird. Let him become familiar with your voice. Leaving the cage door open, offer him treats through the bars at first. When he willingly accepts them, try placing a treat near the open door. Eventually he will starts taking the treats from the door, make no attempt to touch him. When he does come out, he will probably climb around on the cage. Let him explore in his own time. To get him back in, place a treat inside the cage, making sure it's visible.

Interesting, my Loco is about 10 months old (I think). He has really taken to rolling on his back on me too and play biting. He also hangs off me by one leg upside down trying to play bite too!

I put it down to hormones, my little boy is growing up (and becoming a monster).
