Hi all

I am shortly going to get a baby grey from a vet on mainland Greece who also breeds them.

The question is, I had a grey 20yrs ago & had to give him up due to work commitments but now I live in Greek islands I have so much more time to give a Parrot.

One of the reasons to own a grey again is the bond between them & I & also hopefully it will talk too (I am aware that this isn't a cert)

BUT...I also have this "bee in my bonnet" (determination) to also adopt a 2nd needy bird who needs a good home to keep the other one company in an outdoor aviary, but can anyone advise me, will this make the birds independent & ultimately not want to interact with me & come out of the aviary & play each day etc.

If this will be the case maybe I should shut up & just keep the new baby for now.

Hope to hear from some of you.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :)

Two parrot of the same specie that is kept together CAN be more independent. They might choose to bond with the other parrot rather than the owner, I have also heard that the parrot is less likely to talk if it has anther feathered friend, but I don't know if that's the case or not.

However, depends on the bird, some parrot will still be as playful as it can be. Kiwi and Tweety my cockatiels are very playful, and they are kept in the same cage. But when I had my conure, and decide to get him a friend, he did become more independent. I think it does kind of different from bird to bird.

Hope this helped :)
