Good Morning Everyone!!!

Hope everyone and their Babies are well this morning!! I haven't been on here much lately but really need GW owners to tell me if the cage I ordered is to Small or Just right!! We bought him a cage from a wonderful local pet store, we are friends with them so a wonderful deal!! I'm just worrying it might be a tight fit for him!! He's already all over his weaning cage and is busting up his tail, so I was like it's time!! will post pic's later so keep a eye out! So I Order this one thinking it would be perfect for about 15years or so! But i'm always a worrier and over thinking.. again.. He wont be in it much.. Only to sleeping at night and when we aren't home.. but I just want to make sure

If Not please post the kind of Cage yours have!

Thanks Korben's Momma!! :red1:

If it's a permanent cage, and if you have the room - go for a bigger one. :) I'm always of the belief to get as big as you physically can.

If it's a cage as a temporary thing, then that's alright - I think I've read somewhere that with the very young birds that you start them off on a small cage to begin with and then get bigger. It had something to do with them feeling more secure and less chance of falling/injury. (If someone has experience on this, please add to this - is this just a theory or recommended? :p)

It would be his cage for about 10-15years than we are going to make a huge one when we buy our house next year!! but not right away!

Ahh... I would say try and get a double macaw cage if you can in that case then. If he tries to spread his wings, there's a risk of damaged feathers/wings. I like to go off the theory of measure your bird's wing span and ensure that the cage has the room to allow a full wing spread without the feathers touching the cage edge.

If it's JUST a sleep cage (ie, he spends all day outside) then it's not so bad. But if he's in there during the day for any period of time, once you've filled it with toys, perches, bowls, etc there won't be a huge amount of room for him to swing around in and play.

Of course, I should add, if you don't have the room, then not much that can be done.

Just ensure to give him plenty of out-of-cage time. :)

[Edit: This is what we're thinking of getting our guy/girl (haven't decided on gender yet) http://www.parrotize.co.uk/birdcages/Palace-Large-Double-Parrot-Cage.html

I'm trying to find something bigger depth/width wise, but not having much luck.

You can see that when stacked with toys, you want more room to move around.

My partner is in disbelief over the size of the cage, but I want as big as I can get. :D hehe]

No we Have the room right now! I just would like to know if it's to small... He will barely be in the Cage other than Sleeping at night and When we aren't in the house! But other than that he's apart of our family

Glad to hear :) (off topic) how old is he now?

10wks!! And huge!! i love it

Aww. :D Adorable

The cage currently should be fine for a while I think if you decide you want to get a big cage later down the line.

If you find he has to spend any time in the cage during the day, then try and endeavour to get a larger cage :)

As long as he gets outside the cage time daily that should be fine :) here are mine (and mine get a LOT of free time.

good size cage 40 x 32

the white one on the left is 36 x 30

As a sleep cage it is fine~ my cage is about the same size and he can easily spread his wings~ even with toys inside

If I'm not mistaken, that darker playtop one you've got there is a Cal-Cage. It looks almost identical to the white one I currently have Salsa in (Cal-Cage model 550 I believe). I bought it new back in 98 for Jack and Maynard. Then Zaf was even in it for a while too. Zaf of course broke the crap out of it (his last job was 17 broken welds). It looks like yours needs a few welds now as well ;)

If you heart is set on one of these, can Kings hook you up with a nearby distributor? I have attended birdshows and sometimes people go show to show selling cages. Maybe one of those types of vendors can sell you one. That is how I purchased mine.

Yea it does but it was only $100 WITH all the toys/accessories and he even included replacement bars for it as well :)

The one you showed in the link is more than adequate. Very nice cage, in fact. "They" always say, "Go with the biggest you can afford," but that's a bit misleading. I have a large double cage, literally two 40 inch cages connected. Even has the separator in case you want to house two large birds. Howsomever, I find that large cage hard to manage. It's easy for either Caribe or Bravo to get away from me if they want to be a bit ornery, which they often are. A single cage 40 inches or so in width is fine and should last you years and years.

Now, I'll admit that besides the double cage, which we use as an outside cage for them to hang out in when the weather's nice, I do have two 40 inch cages in their room. One is a flat top, the other domed. The domed one is their sleep cage and they tend to hang out in and on the flat top during the day. More room for foot toys and stuff on top. All they can do on the top of the domed cage is basically hang out. I like to give them a couple of boxes full of toys and foraging things on top of the flat top, so they spend most of their days either there or on the stand just off our living room. They can see all the action from there, have a big window and they do love to watch the world go by!

I'd say you done good on what you got. Best of luck to you.
