Just wondering if anyone has any advice on caring for a Kakariki as compared to other parrots.

Looking for suggestions for toys, treats and anything else you think a new Kakariki owner needs to know

I finally got myself a Kakariki. Lovely 10 week old hand raised lutino. I've wanted one for years but never gotten around to getting one. Sadly he was sick when I got him. Hundreds of dollars later I find that he has an small ulcer on the surface of his eye. So as you could imagine he's not the bright energetic little parrot that you would expect of a Kakariki. Poor little guy hasn't had the best start so I'd like to make sure when he is better I have the right environment for him.

I have no advice, just chiming in to ask if that means his eye is being treated with expectation of full recovery? Hopefully?

The poor baby! Hopefully he makes a full recovery and his eyesight is normal. Iā€™m new to birds as pets so I donā€™t know what a kakariki would enjoy, but I would like to say good luck, and I hope the eye heals quickly.

He should make a full recovery. The ulcer on his eye is very small. I think he had some dust or seed husk in his eye. Once he had it flushed out by the vet he was using it more. It's been 3 days since the antibiotics were started and he may as well be a different bird the change is that dramatic.

Thatā€™s awesome! Iā€™m happy to hear heā€™s feeling better. [emoji3]
