To follow up on what Kiwi said, my particular injury was a complete accident. I'm rehabilitating a disabled bird. Accidents are going to happen. It's unfortunate that this particular accident happened just right to cause real damage, but it's something that you need to know *can* happen. But accidents can happen even in a healthy bird. The bird can get spooked or lose her balance, or whatever. My amazon is moody. My senegal is just a jerk (but we love him anyway). Those two are well socialized birds and they are more than capable of biting if I don't read their moods right. However, I don't think either of them can do near the damage the macaw can do, simply because their beaks are smaller (though they can do damage if they want to). I think the point is like Kiwi said; birds can and will bite, and you have to be comfortable with the worst case scenario for whatever bird you choose.
