And I have butterflies! I hope he likes us as much as we love him!

I'm having a hard time putting him in a carrier for the ride home. But I don't know how he'll be in the car and this was what the Vet I worked for told me I needed to do.

Experiences? Thoughts?

It's best to have him in a carrier since you don't know him well yet. Get a perch or use a towel to get him into the carrier. It is safer that way! Good luck! :)

Congratulations!! I am biased, but GWs are just awesome!

Does the rescue have any ideas? It is best to have him in a carrier for safety's sake I would think.

Congratulations! I am so excited for you:) He is beautiful. What is his name? Can't wait to see more pics!

I brought Chaos home in a large plastic dog carrier from Missouri to NJ! He was quiet the entire time except when we stopped for gas. He didn't like stopping. He seemed to like the ride though... he was pleasant the entire trip!

Now we take the birds with us on vacation, and one time Chaos decided he didn't like being in a separate crate than girlfriend Livvy... so he proceeded to eat his way out of it. He's such the destructor! :)

Your new GW should be fine... :)

When I brought Skittles home, the shelter gave me a dog create for the ride home. They all had a good laugh of me trying to convince her to get into the crate. She would just about go in and then grab the door with her beak and close it... I finally grab her body with both my hand and quickly moved her into the crate. Not very graceful. Then she puked and pooped the whole trip home.

A bad as that was, within a month, she was crate trained. No more car sickness and for the most part she goes right into the cage. Every once in a while she will still grab the door and close it just to say "haha".

Skittles sounds like Willie who would shut his cage door on my head and laugh about it....

How exciting! How old is the bird? What's he/she like? :)

I also think a dog carrier will be fine. You can drill a hole and screw in a perch for added comfort.

congrads pretty bird :)

Congratulations! good choice
we are waiting your pictures :d
have long life both of you

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! We got a medium size dog crate for transport with lots of cushion in the bottom. His name is "Diego". He's about 13 years young. Quite a boy!
