I found a 18-y/0 dyh about an hour away from me but I have some concerns.

1. The bird was not DNA sexed.
2. The bird has not come out of her cage for a while so will possibly need some TLC like nail trim.
3. The owner said she eats seed and pellets combo.
4. The owner had a yorkie who wanted to get the bird so the bird was afraid to come out of its cage.

The price is more than I wanted to pay, but includes a cage that needs some work. Not sure what she meant by it because she was hard to understand due to background noise at my house.

This is the ad: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/pet/4119291267.html

I have two birds already who are both male, YN & B&G macaw. What would happen if I brought a female into the mix? Would it create problems with the YN during the hormonal season for either?

There's no way to tell, honestly.

If the price is too high, you could always ask to see if the owner would lower it so you can get a healthy bird checkup on the bird before bringing the bird home?

UGGH! That is way to high [I agree].I hate those idiots on craigslist [and I don't care how much they paid for their cage either !] I have a good mix of birds as you can see . sometimes mine develop bird "Crushes". but its not a big deal . They seem to all adjust. This poor guy im sure does need work . But I would be off to get him [thinking how hes not able to come out of his cage :( Let us know what you do :)

I texted the owner and asked for more pictures and an address. She said she would meet me somewhere and I was follow her to the house. Now I am scared because she wants my money, but won't let me have her address. lol. I guess I don't blame her considering she does not know me.

Don't go alone ! Im sure you read about the 2 Macaws on craigslist that were in the basement .That I went to get.

I'm with Pinky, go with a man for sure, I would also go with your gut instinct.
worse case scenario: the bird does not work out, but at least you got it out of there, and gave it a chance to be happy. the bird looks pretty good though, it hasn't plucked itself.

I can't really blame her for not giving you the address since she doesn't know you from Adam, but I also agree that you should take someone with you and let others know where you are. I'd also offer her less than asking, especially if the cage isn't in decent shape.

The bird looks in good shape. I hope you decide to give it a home and get the price down. Good luck!

We will check out the condition of the bird and mention the cost of vetting to make sure it's healthy. What do you think a fair price would be? Babies are going for $1,000:mad:.

Edit: I slept on this decision and I am considering cancelling my trip Friday because I do not have warm fuzzy feelings about this.

I'm excited with you now, Denise!!! :D She's a great looking bird! I'm going to venture a guess here and say she's a female. :)

If you have no use for the cage, but the lady is unwilling to sell her without it, I'd offer her $600. She mentioned the cage she is in needed some work, so right there is your excuse why you offered her that. ;)

If the cage is not stand up to my standards, what am I to do with the cage? Too bad they can't be recycled. Hmm. I may have to look into that. lol. Seriously, there is a company that purchases a variety of metals in my town.

Am I asking for trouble bringing a female into the flock even though it's different from the others I already have? I wish I could have it dna'd before making a decision.

ask Henpecked, might be able to tell by the picture as Wendy did.
I always go with my gut instinct, it's never wrong :)

The aggression thing during mating season is hit and miss and depends on the bird...

I had a male yellow nape foster, and several DYH fosters at my place without incident, and I had two female zons in the house at the time. My female red lored loved the YNA, and tolerated the others.

If the male overbonds with the female, then he could get quite attacky if you pick up, or attempt to pick up the female. Always pick up the male first.

And if the two of them are displaying for each other, just don't do it... even tame birds are liable to bite at that point.

I spoke to a breeder this morning for some advice and she said that the price was too high as well. I let the lady know I was cancelling the trip, but left the door open in case she changed her mind about price.

I appreciate everybody's responses so I will continue window shopping. Shopping for deals is one of the things I do best.:D:D
