Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
Hi there,

In the morning ill give Enzo a warm drink when she wakes up. She really gulps it down and agter a few seconds she goes into a 'baby chick being fed by parent' act where she goes low, wings held out and wide whilst banging her wide open mouth against the glass, its very cute. Is this normal and as i say its only with warm drinks she does this and the majority of times in the morning, do other birds do this too?

I have no idea but if it is a thing young babies do then I ask, is it good to perpetuate this behavior? Could this be a confusing message to her?

It means she likes it. My bird normally just drinks from my cup or whatever then flips water or orange juice or whatever all over my face. But the sentiment is the same I imagine.

What sort of warm drink stimulates this behavior?

Hi Scott. Any warm drink really. In the morning I'll give her either warm water, camomile tea or sugar free cordial. It makes no difference really.
She loves a warm drink first thing as we all do I suppose

Also it's only warm drinks not warm veg or pellet soup

LOL, they are so curious! So would you sample a bit of pellet soup from a water bowl? :D

It looks like the warm drink awakens memories of being fed as a baby and thus the begging behaviour.

you HAVE to get a video for us!

Ive been thinking the same, its totally reproducable. My son is staying over tonight so ill get him to video her first drink tomorrow on my phone.

She is so cute

She only did it a little bit thus morning. She's was camera shy

Yep.....she likes it and is happy.

Cheers Clark, we all like our hens happy :)

does she bite the cup when she does that? My conure likes to bite my beer bottle top and shake kinda like that.

Yes she does, not a bite as such as she has her beak wide open so she sort of just repeatedly rattles her beak on the cup. ill get a better video, that one is a bit crap to be honest.

INORITE? friggin birds never act right when they are being recorded. It's like every single bird on the planet has a publicity advisor on staff to prevent any gaffs while being filmed.

you say that Clark but Rio has clearly shown in multiple videos that he was a performer for the camera!

Adorable! Levi prefers his water warm. If I offer him cold water he won’t take it. I offer it warm he gulps it up, just like that. He also did the ‘chick’ thing for the longest time. I haven’t seen it for a while now. I believe it’s a sign that she’s really enjoying it, a comfort/memory kind of reaction from her younger days. IMHO :)
