Ace, Blue crown conure
Hello all, Ace is a nine year old blue crown. He and I are inseparable however in the past seven day he has been taking trimethoprim for sneezing. His sneezing has stopped for the most part ( maybe a couple times or so a day) and i just noticed that he has been plucking his feathers under his right wing. Not a lot maybe five or so feathers. Is it possible that it is an allergic reaction to the medication? His vet will be calling me Monday with a result from a live culture test they performed last monday. Any feed back would be great.
Thanks in advanced!

Welcome to our awesome forum
I am not sure whether the plucking is due to an allergic reaction from the medication.
Glad the sneezing has subsided.
Have you changed anything around perhaps moved Ace's cage, put in new toys etc, there could be a number of different reasons.
When chatting to the vet tomorrow, mention that Ace has began plucking and ask for his advise.

Please keep us updated

Thanks for the welcome and quick response. No new changes to cage location or toys. I've read that plucking can also be a sign that they feel ill. He acts relatively the same. He eats, plays and drinks plenty of fluids. The only real difference is he is more clingy to me than usual. I will be asking the vet about this tomorrow as well and report back what he says.

Many reasons for plucking, physical illness or behavioral problems weather changes even a frightening experience. Is your bird getting the correct hours of sleep, enough toys in the cage to keep your bird stimulated....gosh the list is endless.
Mishka my AG only becomes clingy when molting or frightened.
Hope it is nothing serious !!!!!
Let us know okay

Well I have good news. Ace should be A ok. He is responding very well to the trimethoprim. The vet said to continue giving it to him until the end of this week and that the bacteria should clear up. He is still plucking and the vet feels like it could be due to the stress of taking medication. He recommended mixing up his food with more items he likes. I'm throwing together i nice vegi sweet potato mix for him to enjoy. I feel a lot better knowing that Ace is doing much better.
