Binky my 11 month old quaker, brought him home July 11,2014. Olly my o.w.a is 8 years old.brought him home,sept.3rd. :-)
I have got to get a video camera! The lady I got sassy from said that she could say about 8 different things....wrong! This b.c.c in the 8 days I've been her mommy has said about 30-40 different words/phrases! Talks better in the last few days than any b.c.c I've seen on YouTube! Last night she did a performance on top of her cage(mind u she had been mostly cage bound with last owner) she talked for a good thirty minutes straight, said almost every word/phrase I ever said to her!!!! I'm just amazed and had to share :) :). :). :). :)

I had a dusky conure that was fully cognitive, and spoke conversationally, like my CAG. He's the only one of those I ever had that was a conure, but some do...

This one should be taught words and phrases in context. Take the time to teach him, he will learn it in context, and use it back to you in context.

Then you will really be amazed!

SO glad to see this thead. Gus freaked me out a little yesterday. He was in his cage on the back side close to the window. All was quiet in the house. He jumped to the other side of the cage and started screetching and yelled HELP HELP . I ran to his cage thinking something got in . Looked out the window and the couple that live down the beach were driving by on the golf cart. Freaked Gus out
He calmed down quick . The window was open and the poor older couple thought I was yelling help LOL
Amazing
Not meaning to hijack your thread :)

If they hear a phrase, and understand the context, they will often use it in context. Dogs can't talk, but they know what commands like come, sit and stay mean... Birds can actually give the friggin command. (My dusky used to summon me to his cage with "come here." Wanna go outside? Wanna go for a walk? Is that good? Want some?) etc.

That's cool! My first bird was a budgie with a huge vocabulary and he did understand what he was saying and applied it correctly.
Birds are so intelligent, regardless whether they speak or not, but when we hear them speak it is so easy to relate to their minds.
Would enjoy a video if you got one!

Birdman, she does use a lot of phrases/words in context! So cool...she told me when I kept trying to give her sweet taters..I don't like it! When I do something she don't like, such as put her, night night...she says..what are you doing????? Etc.etc...got someone talking to me as though I'm not Sitting here trying to write this post...rude people...more later :)

Sometimes when I feed him he will say hot if I just ignore it he will yell it. So I say no its not hot and he will eat. amazing

One of Maggie's - ahem - endearing qualities...

When she is regurgitating for me, and I am less than enthusiastic about it...

She will look me in the eye and tell me "It's good! Want some?!"

The same way I do when I am giving her food... Then she grabs my fingers and does her happy head bob, and brings up a tasty treat... which I let her eat.

(Some guys are just picky eaters I guess, but she keeps trying!)

:D
