about winter

This will be first winter for me with my princes. I am warry about temperature in her room. Could somebody tell me how they pass the winter, because in my country there no many people with macaw. How much degree will be perfect for her

Welcome to the forums, and whatever temperature you feel comfortable at will be comfortable for your bird, as long as it is allowed to acclimate rather than go from 10 degrees C to -10 degrees C in a short span of time.....

There are breeders in Europe who break the ice on their birds water dishes in the mornings.

That's bloody cold. If I was your macaw and you kept me at that temperature I'd bite your finger off.

It would be light shirt weather & maybe even T-shirt weather for me.....I often run my air conditioning system in the winter. I would think that if the bird was used to living in that environment, they would feel comfortable in it.....

Shayne, while I was not advocating maintaining birds at -10C, they could handle those temperatures in a nest, out of winds and drafts.....actually parrots are much better at handling cold temperatures than they are at handling heat.....

My birds are typically kept at temperatures between 50° F to 80° F (10-26.6° C) although I know it's been hotter than that! It really depends upon the time of year how warm or cold it is at any given time during the day. They have been in temps as high as 90° F due to a lack of cool air flow to their room.

If acclimated and they don't show any signs of over heating or freezing then I think as long as you are comfortable, they will be too.

They can handle most temperatures that we can handle. If youre cold in your home, your bird is probably fine as long as it's not a sudden drop in temperature. If, however, you're water is literally freezing in your house, then it's time to increase the temperature!

Birds are great at adjusting, if given time, it's sudden chances that will harm them. Our birds handle the cold winters here just fine. How cold does it get (in your home) in winter?

They can handle cold as long as they're acclimated to it as long as it doesn't come as shock within short periods. There are plenty of breeders that keep them outside all year long even in the snow. Where is that Golden Macaw link when you need it showing macaws playing in the snow inside a aviary. Just make sure its not constant draft, perhaps cover one side of the cage with a blanket if it gets that cold.

In wisconsin it can get COLD and HOT. But I never experienced and issue with my bird. He was very resilient. We keep our house on the cooler side in winter as well. We only set the heat at 64 and don't use A/C in the summer and temps can get into the mid-90's with high humidity. I agree as long as it is a gradual change everything should be fine.
