I found this parrot abandoned in a box and left on the curb. Any idea on what type of amazon this is? I will be bringing the parrot to the vet to get checked out.

Poor little guy, I'm so glad you found him! He looks like an Orange Winged Amazon.

What a horrible thing to do, abandoning a parrot that way. Glad you found him and took him in. That does look like an Orange-winged Amazon.

How awful :( looks on the young side to me - maybe wrong?

Thank you for rescuing him!

As so well stated above, this is an Orange Winged Amazon. The age is difficult with the photo provided, but has some appearances of a younger OWA.

As a species, OWA common are sweethearts and fit easily into a welcoming family.

Thank-you, for checking out that box!

Birdman666 had found an Amazon in a box next to a larger trash container. States that Amazon was the best, most loving Parrot he had ever had.

Keep us informed! Thank-You!!!

Thank you for rescuing this Orange Wing Amazon.
Our wild caught OWA died just a little over a year ago.
still miss him.

In a box??? By the curb? I'm ashamed to be human sometimes. THANK YOU so much for rescuing this poor baby. This is a great forum, with tons of info, and really caring parrot owners. Blessings on you, friend.

Such a sad story! I imagine he/she is scared and confused. Thank you for the rescue and please keep us posted.

What kind of monster abandons an animal in a box on the curb like trash?! I hate our species sometimes.

Glad you came across this little guy/girl and took them home:) I'm sure 'he' will never find himself unloved again:)

Thank goodness for happy endings!

What a pretty little baby! I feel so sad for him/her. My OWA passed away 5 yrs. ago at age 46. I still miss him. Still have my BFA of course, but Rocky was such a sweet bird. Good luck with this one. Glad he found you!

WOW!! Thank God you found him/her. What made you open the box, did you hear something moving or making sounds? Oh my goodness, just awful.
Will you be able to keep him/her?

We are taking him/her to the vet tomorrow. I got a lot of toys and perches and gave him/her a first bath. Not hand tamed and already got bit a couple of times. Was fed sunflower seeds but I have stocked zupreem pellets and a seed mix without sunflowers. Haven’t seen the bird eat but did drink water and preen so hopefully it’s getting comfortable. I will keep This bird. It’s been hard not having any parrots for a long time. One of my dogs is terrified and other thinks it’s a puppy. Cats are curious but the bird is never left unsupervised. Will keep you posted on the vet visit. Thank you all for the supporting messages.

The box moved and I thought it was going to be cats or kittens as I have found that before. It was a huge shock to see a parrot.
