So I had this very long story almost completely typed out and it got erased I really hate computers!

Long story condensed..A couple that heard about my husband and I and our devotion to our birds decided after having this LOVELY girl for almost 10 yrs, she was 6 months old when they got her that she was no longer having any kind of life. She has been locked away in her cage getting out maybe a half hour or so once a week because the pit bull they have wants to eat her and once she flew into the window so they thought it safer if she was in her cage, where she has stayed for many years now!

I was contacted, my immediate reaction was NO! After listening to the story, I said I would meet her if she didn't hate me I would think about it, they didn't want money just a good home. Well she didn't hate me, she is without a doubt the most beautiful Magna DYH I have ever seen in person. She is not aggressive just afraid, even with three people trying to get her off the top of the cage she would grab fingers but never once applied any pressure!

She is VERY over-weight and while not clipped I doubt she could fly very far even if she tried. Her toenails are super long and super sharp. The pictures were taken while she was sitting on the travel carrier and I was setting up her new cage. They offered me hers but it was a rusted p.o.s. so I said no thank you, it might be better to just have everything be new for her all at once. While she was exploring the cage I was able to stealthy cut a few toenails, I really don't want to have to towel her just yet. She is separate from the other birds right now to let her settle in. She lived her whole life in the same house with no other birds so I am not worried too much. Last night when the zon's were out on their stands she could hear them and started talking to them long distance.:D

So here she is, any questions, fire away, as I said this was a much longer story until it got erased and I was not going to retype the whole thing! Also I could use some help with a new name something fitting of her spectacular beauty. She doesn't say the name she was given so I can pick anything.

Wow!! What a beautiful bird :) Isn't that extra yellow even for a Magna DYH? Sounds like a great temperament too... You really scored here! Sounds like the bird did too. I can't wait to hear what name you come up with!

I felt your pain about accidentally erasing the long post. I don't know how many times I've done that with posts and emails both on computers and iPad/phone. It's so awful it just makes you crazy.

:D She is MAGNIFICENT, Laura!!! A true Magna indeed. WOW! You must be over the moon - I'm all smiles over here, and can't stop looking at her.

You'll have her in shape in no time, no doubt in my mind. Lots of TLC, the right food and exercise, and the Diva will look even better (and THAT's hard to imagine, for her to look any sexier than she already does) ;)

I have seen pictures of Magna's in their twenties where the yellow meets the wing tops and goes even further down the chest and the back of the neck. As I understand it the Magna's just keep getting more and more yellow through the years. :) I think she is stunning even if she never gets more yellow than now. I wish you could see in person the color gradient on her head. It is this white yellow by her nares and then moves into this blinding lemon yellow then to hints of a orange yellow on the very back of her head. Amazing!!:D

I really am over the moon! I know it will take a while to get her more comfortable and less afraid. Even longer to get her in shape weight wise, she didn't have but one toy in her cage and it was not the chewing/destroy kind but more for people appeal. She isn't showing any interest in the new wood toys I got her but hopefully she will get how fun it is soon!

As gorgeous as she is in pics, I know what you mean about seeing in person. Seems like most birds are even more beautiful in person. There are just subtleties and detail the camera can't catch. I'd love to see that gradient color! :)

Perhaps she would like to start with small foot toys? Something meant for small(er) birds, something that will be easy for her to destroy, just until she learns how much fun toys can be. :)

Now please, Laura, I'm begging you, don't be shy and post LOTS of pictures of her (and your other fids) OFTEN. :D

Very nice bright colors, and sounds like a good temperament to boot! One lucky bird!

Oh my... she is on top of her cage hanging out and she can hear but not see the other zon's she is screaming hello and hi and some other garbled stuff!

One thing the man wanted to warn me about, he showed me a door casing that she had eaten and said that he didn't know why she did that and asked if all parrots do that. Yup..pretty much, leave them unsupervised and any wood is fair game.:p

When I first talked to them on the phone I said if she was viscous toward me I really couldn't take that on right now so when I got there and he was trying to get her off the cage and she was grabbing his finger but not applying any pressure he kept saying she isn't viscous is she? He really didn't get that she could do serious damage if she wanted. I said no if she was biting you for real you would be on the way to the ER for stitches or to have your crushed bone looked at. You should have seen his face!

He also told me that when they bought her the pet shop told him "they are so smart you can teach them to use the remote". He asked if that was true. Ummm no, they are super smart but the only thing they are going to do with the remote is eat the buttons! It really makes me mad when someone new to birds is told ridiculous crap just to make a sale.

She doesn't want to step up today and I am not pushing her, just letting her explore freedom on top and around her cage. I need to get on the hubby to get a stand for her made. I don't think it's a good idea to let her play on top of the cage a whole lot since she was so confined to her cage in her former life.:)

It's all good, Matt. :) If my Sam turns out half as handsome as his Papa, I'll be quite happy. ;)
