A sweet little birdie called Lovejoy 💖

One of the major selling points of the house we’re in now was the sliding doors that enable me to keep birdies out of the kitchen, ESPECIALLY tiny little curious ones like Lovejoy who could get themselves into SO much trouble! I’ve also hung curtains over the doorways to slow them right down when the doors are left open to allow fresh air to circulate during the summer months, which means I’m often greeted by the sight of the little red rooster peeking into the forbidden territory of the kitchen!!

"don't look at me just trying to destroy moms stuff!"

I've been trying to capture video of Lovejoy wrestling with his bell for AGES, but either it's too glary in the bird room or he stops and flies over to me the moment he sees me videoing him. Finally had success this morning - perhaps I should add a warning about the shocking violence, oh and the gratuitous lorikeet poop too!!

Look at him go! I absolutely love the hanging branches you have there for them to play on!

Thank you! They're actually offcuts from the grapevine we have growing by our back door. They were just the right shape to make a big birdie swing out of them! :)

Not the bottle of rum but that's my toy.

I love it when my phone does this stuff for me all by itself. How does it know?! 💝

You didn't make it? You just chose the pics and vids or...

Anyway, nice, I've never heard about such thing

I didn't do a thing, Rozzy, my phone did it all by itself! It even got that sequence of short images of Lovejoy's head becoming more and more red all in the right order - amazing!!

Get your tissues ready, it did this one of Lilly a little while ago ...

Charlie is getting his beak rubbed as I’m watching Lovejoy videos. Do your birds love their beak rubbed too? Mine beg for it.

Both my 'tiels love a head and/or beak rub, the rest of them not so much. Lovejoy is very picky about whether he wants a scratch during daylight hours, but come sunset EVERY nite he STILL demands his hour's worth of snuggles and scritches before bed. Which makes the dinner service for the humans rather interesting, we have to eat either before or afterwards cos there is hell to pay if he doesn't get his snuggle PRECISELY when he wants it!!

It's the subject matter, it cannot help itself!!!
True true, Uncle Boats! Seems the 🍏 Phone Empire has been sucked into the little red rooster's irresistible vortex of cuteness too!!!

Went and got some eucalypt flowers for Lovejoy this morning. It's interesting, I try to make sure he gets first dibs with them because Peachie loves them too but she usually rips them apart, but lately Lovejoy seems to be happier when he and Peachie share them together. Now that's what I call love 💝

Do all birds like eucalypt flowers? I should give this a try. Maybe because it’s a flower I won’t get snobbery from my parrots like I do when I give them fruits & veggies they don’t like.

Look at them sharing ❤️❤️❤️

Honestly I don't know about *all* birds, but I do find giving them whole flowers gives them a lot of extra enrichment, since they enjoy destroying them just as much as they do eating them. My guys get bottlebrush and grevillea flowers too, all Aussie natives, though lorikeet keepers in colder climates also give hibiscus flowers and dandelions, probably other things as well but I guess because I have access to Aussie natives I haven't personally done a great deal of research into what else is suitable.

They do seem to enjoy a romantic meal together, don't they?

he is an adorable birdie

Off subject my parents were in Australia about 2 weeks ago. We always walk on the right side over here, same with driving. Well apparently over there everything is done on the left side. My mom got yelled at by the aussies for walking on the wrong side 😂😂 😂😂 I’m from Minnesota. I’ve always lived in the Midwest. We call Minnesota people Minnesota nice. We can be passive aggressive. My boss for an example when I messed up would tell me I do great, and I’m an outstanding employee but I don’t know what I’m doing. We can’t just say things bluntly. My parents said Aussies call it like they see it. They are much more forward. It was a strange experience for them. I haven’t really traveled overseas but I should probably do some googling if I do.

Oh @kme3388, I'm sorry the Aussies your parents encountered were so rude!! They couldn't have been in Queensland, folks are MUCH nicer up here! Just make sure you come to Queensland when you visit, won't you? Oh and visit New Zealand too while you're in the vicinity. Beautiful people, awesome scenery, fantastic food and wine and lots of exotic birds there too, you'd LOVE it!!
