Just wondering how often and where do you (if ever) see wild budgies in day to day life? Have they adapted to urban/suburban life? Are their flocks large? I remember reading books as a kid saying flocks of budgies would blot out the sky they were so huge...is this true? Are they as common in Australia as sparrows are elsewhere?

I want to know, too! Also about cockatiels! Lol

Haha no, they're not urban birds, they live out in the desert and other dry regions mainly. In dry years you can see massive flocks, at least a few hundred thousand strong. Wild budgies are also smaller than the "English" budgies you'll find in pet shops.

They are also very skittish, and there are always raptors hanging around them.

Cockatiels are a bit different, they form much smaller flocks and aren't quite as hard to find - they'll hang around rural areas.
