Hello Everybody!!
Well, my 21 yr old daughter has been wanting either a Sun Conure or a Cockatoo of any of the species. She has given my mother the sun conure bug since showing her and taking her to see several at pet stores and such. Well, today my Mom found a 10 week old baby girl Sun and purchased her. She is so very sweet, although was not a hand fed baby, the folks she bought her from said they had not ever sexed their 2 Sun's and have had them for about 2 yrs now and this was their first clutch. Since they didn't know anything about hand feeding, they didn't want to take the risk, therefore just let Mom and Dad bird feed the 2 babies they had and wean them, themselves. They told us that she has been (assumed girl, we'll get her sexed) weaned and food independent for about 2 weeks now.
She needs some one on one time to get her more comfortable with being handled, as they didn't handle her a whole lot. She doesn't bite if you handle her, but she also doesn't stay very long either before flapping away, LOL. The breeder also trimmed her wings, not a bunch, but enough that she can't get too much heighth when she does flap away.
She isn't terrified, she's just reasonably nervous about her new surroundings, she isn't scared of people, just isn't thrilled YET about being handled, she'll take treats from your fingers, doesn't freak out when you walk up to her cage and talk to her, in fact she sometimes will even move closer while she's listening. So, it won't take much to get her to feel safe and happy.
For all of you who may not know, My husband, myself, my two teen daughters, my oldest daughter and my parents all live in the same house, YES, it's crowded, it's a temporary living situation until after the new year, we originally moved in with my folks in an effort to combine financial forces during these very hard times. We've been here for 2 years now and are now just about ready to go our separate ways, around the beginning of the year.
That being said, I am owned by Maui, only. My Mom, however is owned by, 3 cockatiels, 16 Gouldian Finches, 2 Fisher Lovebirds, 2 Zebra Finches, 3 Budgies AND now last but CERTAINLY not least 1 beautiful sweet baby girl Sun Conure.
My oldest daughter has committed to helping her grandmother socialize the new baby, who's name is "Ki Ki", if they so choose to keep it. I'm actually excited about her, I love Conures, I think they're so cute and playful and very entertaining to watch!!!
She is inside and will be in quarrantine for a while, so obviously has not met the rest of her new flock. Most of my Mom's birds are re homed birds and aren't the friendliest of their kinds, but they're happy . A few of her birds are, but not all of them. I actually can't wait until I can introduce Ki Ki and Maui to each other, since they are both so young, I'm hoping that they'll be buddies, Maui would like to be buddies with the "tiels, but the 'tiels do NOT share the same interest! :11: And I feel so sad for Maui, he just looks at them like "Why don't you want to be my friend". So maybe now, he'll have found a "feathered" friend, because as you all know, I'm certainly his BEST friend
Just thought I'd let everyone know how my evening went.
