A mirror for Rocky?

Clyde, Quaker; Freddie, tiel; Rocky, umbrella cockatoo.
We had Rocky out on the front porch (enclosed) today and he saw his reflection in the picture window and was fascinated. What's the prevailing opinion on mirrors for 'toos? My Quakers are indifferent to mirrors, the tiels like to admire themselves occasionally, but not that much, and my canary loves hers. My starling pecks her reflection, but it's the sound her beak makes on the mirror that she likes, not the reflection itself and my budgie just uses his for a perch.

None of my birds have much interest in mirrors. I will occasionally put one or two on my shoulder and approach; they observe but don't show much emotion.

However, having my Goffins face an iPhone or iPad with the selfie camera activated is a different story! Great interest is shown ranging from a raised crest to posturing and the puffing of feathers. A sure way to get my BFA talking on cue is to show him a video of his chattering.

Poppy has never shown any interest in mirrors.

Poppy does love IPhones, especially noisy bird videos.

I bought a mirror and hung it on the wall behind his cage and .. he was not impressed. LOL Tried to find him a shiny toy his size at Petsmart and ... they only had toys for small birds. The good news is, today he finally started to feel at home enough to show his crest and do a 'too happy dance just for fun a few times and he's talking more without having to hide under his cage cover.

Poppy's absolute favorite toys are her Fisher Price guitar and piano, she hits the buttons and and dances. She loves blocks, phone books, and cardboard to destroy too.

We give Rocky our junk mail to tear up and he's disappointed today is Sunday so there's no mail for him. LOL He likes the paper towel and toilet paper tubes a lot, too. I gave him a phone book, but he only works on it when there's no mail or tubes available. And we bought him a 2x4 that Hubby sawed up into blocks and tied onto a rope and he's been working on that. His new favorite thing is to sit on the porch with us and watch the wild birds at the feeder. He also finds it amusing to throw pellets on the floor for the dogs to eat.

Smokey my TAG just loved her mirror...she'd slam it,yell at it then end up having it nestled on her shoulder while she kissed herself. Amy doesn't have a mirror, but I just found something real funny about her. I have one of those "Amish" electric style fireplace/heaters in my living room and she walked by it and saw her face in the glass and /I heard her say "Hi there bird" that's what my son usually says to her when he feeds her..maybe I should invest in a mirror for her.

Jonesy the Goffins could care less about a mirror.

My dad's goffin has a small mirror on the wall behind his cage (he would break on if it were within his reach). He likes looking at his reflection. Mirrors are one of those things some birds react favorably to, whereas others don't. If you do try one, be sure to keep a close eye on Rocky to make sure he's reacting favorably and that the mirror is not consuming too much of his time nor is he being aggressive towards it or is distressed by it's presence.

I have nine birds counting Rocky and have been through the mirror thing before. You can tell within the first hour or so how they're going to react with a mirror. When he saw his reflection in the window, it was more of a "wow, that's pretty cool" than anything, but he decided he was afraid of the mirror on the wall, so I took it down.
