If you have Netflix you have to watch the movie, parrot confidential. It is extremely good, I recommend it to everyone constantly. It will make you cry, it will make you laugh, it is just amazing. It is a must see for any parrot owner.

I don't like watching movies that will make me cry...

I'm part way in and only stopped because someone came over. It's very interesting but sad so far.

Excellent documentary. Thanks for recommending it, William.

I cried twice. When Lou found his friend and when Geoffry was released into the wild.
Seeing the Macaws in their natural place, was truly majestic.

I was you tubing it, but halfway through it seems the recording I was watching got spliced with another random video :( so I didn't get to see all of it.

Is it the one that starts with Dolly?
Just trying to find it....

I think that was the Toos name with the woman in her 70s? That is the one

Yes, and her owner is a wonderful example of people treating their birds with the love and respect they need. I wish every bird had an owner like Dolly's.

I'm only halfway through.... this is the saddest documentary I've ever seen. Makes me want to give Pumpkin a hug. He will never be one of these statistics. I wish I could do more, but THIS bird will have a home for his entire life. THIS bird will always have healthy food and clean water. No matter what behavior problem he may develop down the line, THIS bird will always be loved and safe. That is all I can do... I wish it was enough.

I watched it. For me it really raised questions about the ethics of keeping parrots as pets. It made me uncomfortable that I contributed to the problem by not getting rescues.

Makes me feel guilty for having parrots, feel like I should release them into their native habitat, only that most likely they wouldn't survive the experience.

The documentary seems to be saying that parrots shouldn't be pets or live in homes with people, perhaps true. Also that people shouldn't breed parrots.

I don't know what to think. In summary they should have never been wild caught and taken out of their native habitat in the first place. I feel guilty for every bird I own now with the exception of my second hand, pre-owned red bellies.

All in all I found it a good documentary, however I'm going to see if I can find out exactly why this documentary was made and who is behind the filming of it.

From Jane Goodalls message we can be certain they are saying parrots should not be pets. Parrot Confidential ~ Jane Goodall on Parrots and Parrot Confidential | Nature | PBS

I will agree and disagree. :) Many people get pets for the wrong reasons (it's pretty!) and the pet then suffers, goes through rehomes, maybe never finding that great forever home.

The pet trade is typically not what causes animals to go extinct however, and it is many times those who have great love for their animals that help with keeping that from happening.

Lets face it, a lot of people should not have children, much less pets, but we probably are not going to stop people from having children or pets. Love and care for who we have and if you find it in your heart to help a rescue awesome. Animals sharing our lives can be such a positive thing.

I went home and watched it last night on youtube. Here is a link to that if no one has seen it.
