Hi everyone
I just wanted to introduce myself:
I am owned by 2 lovebirds: Mango and Tzippy. These are my first birds/parrots and I am loving the experience. I have had Mango now for about a year and a half. I am fairly animal savvy, having been brought up around a lot of animals and currently living with 3 dogs, a cat, 4 runner ducks, 4 hens and a tank of tropical fish... but parrots were not something I had a chance to own until recently.
Mango was an untame, aviary bird. I actually bid on and won him at a poultry auction! It was not totally a spur of the moment decision, as prior to acquiring him, I had spent about 6 months researching parrots deciding what might suit me. He has a cagemate, Tzippy, who I got as a hand reared youngster last year. She is a female and they totally adore each other. I have spent a lot of time working with Mango to get him tamer and so that he is not nervous. It has worked and he hangs out on me and will go back in his cage when I tell him to 90% of the time. Tzippy is a lot more dependent in a way because she is hand reared and has no fear - she loves to spend time hanging out with me while I am doing chores. She started learning to talk at a young age and so far she says: Whatcha doin? How are you doing? Tzippy! Pretty Bird, Tickle, Hello and Hi.
I have attached pics of Tzippy, Mango and them together exploring.
