I have been working on "bird-proofing" my home and getting the bird's cage/etc ready (will be done mid-may). I plan on getting either a TAG or a CAG (leaning towards TAG, the size difference doesn't really matter to me, but i like the darker coloring of the TAG). Do you have a preference between the 2 subspecies? I have found a few breeders that will have TAGs and a few with CAGs ready around the middle of June, but visiting the bird at the breeders is not possible, because they are out of state. They will be shipped VIA delta airlines. I am a little nervous/scared/skeptical of shipping, Have you used Delta to either send or receive your bird? How do you feel about shipping?

There are a few Members on here that have had their Birds shipped and as far as I know have not had any problems with doing this, and have recieved their Birds safe and sound!

Loads of people get their birds shipped and they pretty much always seem to use delta, so I'd feel confident about that. Obviously there is a risk, but any breeder who ships will always cover you by saying if there is a problem they will either replace the baby, refund, etcetc. Things generally don't go wrong tho! Only recently someone got an ekkie "Scout" shipped to her and all went well in regards to her getting the bird safe and sound. :)

I prefer congo's because they're not as dark, and horn coloured beaks weird me out a little bit. :p But if I didn't have a choice, I would be just as happy with a tag and learn to love their funny coloured beaks. ;)

i got my boy shipped via delta. He arrived safe and sound. It was a 7 hour flight and he came out like he had only been in there for about 5 min. He did some wing stretching and instantly became a member of the family :)
i was worried it was going to be a stressful experience but it didnt even phase him.
good luck with finding your new baby :)

I haven't had a bird shipped, but my dog, Onyx, was. She came from South Dakota and I lived in Upstate NY. She arrived fine, a little scared, smelly and poop coated, but nothing a good bath, some love and oatmeal shampoo couldn't fix ;)

As far as the different Grey's; I've had both and I prefer TAG's (sorry Mayden, I LOVE their horn colored beaks :p ). I personally find the TAG's to be sweeter, a little more easy-going, and in some cases, a little more handle-able. I enjoy both, but I definitely lean towards TAG's.

I had my TAG (Cosmo) shipped to me By Delta about 6 weeks ago . I was really nervous and worried about the long flight (he came from Maryland ) so including a layover plus a delayed flight he was in that crate for about 9 or 10 hours . But he was totally fine , a lot better off than me ...lol And the first thing he said when he came out of the crate was "peek-a-boo"
I like the the darker coloring of the TAGS as well. Plus I had read they were less phobic than CAGS and I do like the smaller size . I was nervous to about getting a bird I had never met , but he is wonderful. So sweet and funny too!
But either one you choose,I am sure will be an amazing lifelong friend for you : )

Oh, I must add that I found (at least for my two) that my TAG was WAAAAY more active and vocal than my CAG. I don't know if that's because our CAG was a little older when we got her and I weaned our TAG, just their personalities or what. I ended up having to get our TAG a cage almost three times the size of the one we did have (recommended size for a Grey), to accommodate all the toys. The CAG barely touched toys. Our TAG was much like a Caique - always on the go!! And we LOVED it!

I ship with both Delta and Continental. I prefer Delta because i use them so often, have never had an issue with either one. I do prefer to ship early in the day so they can arrive during normal business hours ,just in case.
