I started posting in a couple of the other sections already, but I figure it's time for a proper introduction post seeing as I'm now definitely an unexpected long term owner of a parrot and have reason to prolong my stay at the site (which is excellent, by the way! You guys have been so helpful with my questions about the injured lorikeet we found).
I'm 22 years old web consultant/contractor, living in Western Australia. My boyfriend and I kind of ended up with a young rainbow lorikeet when I found him on the road unable to fly. This was almost 2 weeks ago. He still can't fly properly, but is getting better, and we've recently decided to keep him. He got used to us quickly and now likes being picked up and cuddled.
I also have a dog - a 4 year old Australian Cattle Dog, Kelpie, and Beagle mix, who is the most amazing creature I've ever had the pleasure of meeting (but don't tell my boyfriend that. He likes to think he's the most amazing creature). I own and run a dog fitness website (1fitmutt.com) and am thinking about starting a blog detailing my journey with my first ever parrot (I used to have a cockatiel when I lived with my parents, but he was more my mom's and wouldn't let us come near him unlike this guy). But first he needs a name! My boyfriend and I are still deciding on one.
Anyway, that's pretty much it! I might lurk more than I post at first as I get a feel of the forum
