Hey I bought my lovely baby indian ringneck about 5 days ago. I just would like some advice on how to take care of her and best way to tame her. Also can I clip her wings? She can already fly.
I just want to make a bond with my Molly because at the moment she sits all day on a curtain rail. She can take food from my hand but when take her down she flies back up.
Any advice would be great.
Also I was told by the owner she is weaned because she drinks water and eats on her own and she refuses the formula.
Looking forward to your replies :green2:

I would seriously recommend that you do not clip her wings! As you've probably heard the saying Flight or Fight. Birds natrually flee instead of fight, so if her ability to fly is taken from her she will bite/attack often as she cant flee and is vunrable. And plus, she will be happier flying. Clipping her wings so she doesnt fly from you is basically forcing her to be with you. To develope a real and strong bond with her allowing her to fly will earn her respect and co operation, so she knows that you're not forcing her to do anything and that she has the option to flee. Not to mention clipped birds are more likely to mutilate and pluck themselves than flighted birds.

Ok so clipping her wings was just one of my questions. I don't want to clip her wings just because I want to "force" her to be with me... I'm more concern about her safety because I don't want her to fly into the wall or window and break her neck...
I just would like to know how to make a bond with her. Ive had birds before but they usually were budgies and I didn't have to do much to tame them just give them space, some treats and love and they would come to me. I guess it's different with indian ringneck. I have to give her a proper training so she becomes a calm and loving bird :) I just need some advice please :green2:

Okay first off, is she afraid of you? If so you need to start from the beginning which ill explain later if this is the case.
You need to take her into a preferably small and EMPTY room, best if the room has no curtain railings so she cant fly there.Put her on a stand and begin clicker training her, which is basically using the training clicker, clicking and rewarding so she associates the click with a treat. Step 1 :) Do this for about two or three days if necessary
