Babies bob heads to beg for food... is he weaned?

Just some references for you...

Certified Avian Vets

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
If none are near you, maybe you could call and ask for a recommendation for somebody in your area.
And... sometimes, distant vets will offer brief thoughts or advice...
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
Or maybe a local breeder might help... again, maybe Google?

How is your baby doing? I have experience handfeeding and weaning baby budgies so if you need any advice or have any questions please ask.

I'm weaning an 9 week old hand raised budgie right now. Hand raised budgies wean quite a bit later than parent raised ones. I've gotten her to eat thick formula herself out of a tiny plastic cup. I hold it for her and let her eat out of the cup until she's full. She nibbles seed and tiny pellets between 3 formula meals a day. The past week I've been mixing her formula with cooked rice and she likes it. I spend a lot of time nurturing her (holding her, talking to her and playing). I hold her while I'm eating and she's very interested in anything I'm eating just like she would be if parent raised.

I wouldn't expect your baby to be completely weaned before she's 12 weeks old. Don't rush it. Offer her tiny pellets and try mixing them into her formula. Keep her cage well stocked with adult foods you want her to eat. My birds love Romaine lettuce. Nibble it in front of her and offer it to her. Don't try to skip feedings thinking if she gets hungry enough she will eat adult food. It will just upset and frustrate her.
Enjoy this special time with your baby-;it will end soon enough and you will miss it.
