30 year old sick greenwing

Just like for humans, there is nothing wrong, in fact there is much GOOD, in considering the hospice approach to a very serious condition where the treatment might be worse than living out life with the condition but having lots of comfort/pain measures taken, love, love, love and more love. So if after another opinion, you determine that it surgery and after-care prognosis are not the best, then choosing the hospice at home route would give your birdie the best quality and dignity for living out his life with you.

I'm sorry that you and your birdy are going through this. It's so sad to have a family member in this situation. I send my prayers and hugs.

crgansonia - could you contact your vet or the doctor at the university for suggestions on how to deal with her wing so life is a little easier for her? Maybe they would have a good idea on the best way to wrap it and keep it stable. Good luck with that.

Do you think Lady would allow you to wrap her wing to her body if it seems like a safe thing to do. I don't have any vet experience, but am just thinking that since it sounds like the joint has degenerated, that she needs to have it sort of splinted to her body, kind of like a belt wrapped around her body and wing to hold the wing in place. It might be very annoying to her to have it so immobilized. You could try getting self sticking velcro and put the two ends on a strip of soft fabric and wrap it. Then it is easy on, easy off.

Re: with a heavy heart

JUst thought I would update. Lady Died tonight in my arms. The vet said she would only make it a month but she lasted three months with constant care.

The tumor as suspected invaded her chest wall and into her lungs. She started having respiration problems at the onset when I took her to the vet but for weeks she did fine with no problems.

About a week ago she would have Respiration problems kind of like asma and I would take her into a steamy shower room and she would snap out of it after spending several minutes with her. Over the last days they were more frequent and a couple of days ago her breathing would not return to normal. I think her heart gave out because she made a quick jerk and I picked her up in my arms and she was gone in seconds

I hand fed her with a suringe about 4 times a day with formula and gave her the opportunity to drink herself. If she would not drink on her own I would give her 10cc of water every hour and at night she would have a dinner of her own with me sitting on the chair arm eating dinner next to me. She gained 120 grams of weight in the three months and looked fantastic.

She sat on that chair arm everynight and I slept next to her. IN the mornings she would gently wake me up grooming my eyebrows and hair.
She was the most Sweet Gentle Bird and had a bond like no other. She never would bite and was very gentle with me and loved for me to pet and rub her wallops.

I have never seen a bird so gentle as she was and I am heart broken that she passed.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your fid. Like many of the other posters have already said, Lady got to live a life full of happiness, love, and dignity. Your compassion and devotion to her has made the hugest difference in her life, and it is so clear that she loved you back with the same amount of feeling. I know she knew and appreciated everything you did for her, and she will forever remain in your heart and be your feathered angel in the sky. She sounded like a very amazing girl, and you should be very proud of the life you were able to provide for her. My heart goes out to you.

I'm so so sorry for your loss, I've only just come across this thread and was hoping so much for a happy outcome, at least for prolonging her happy life a bit more. I'm glad you got 2 extra months longer than anticipated and she was obviously very well loved.

RIP Lady. I'm so sorry for your loss crgansonia. xx
