We had a great first night. She let me pet her head through the bars just before lights out. This morning she has let me fed her off the flat of my hand. She ran away once when I left her cage open of a half a min and turned my back, but happily went back in for the offer of a almond. She started talking just a little bit ago. She even stepped up for a couple seconds on her offer. I did not push her and when she stepped back down she wanted a head pet. things are looking great.

Awwwwwww.....That's a cute picture!!!! I'm glad things are working well for you so far! I seriously never thought about having a second macaw after Willie until Lola came to us and I fell for her good. We LOVE her!!! Even my partner does more with her. My partner is able to pet her more IF I'm not home. Willie is a no go, he won't let anyone pet him except me for the past 10 years.

Awwww, Congratulations! Sounds like she's doing fantastic in such a short period of time.

And let the testing began! Well tonight she started to lunge at me, bite and yell! I am seeing this as a good sign. poor girl was flown across country and has a whole new home with strangers. My other birds took weeks to start the testing, if she is feeling this comfortable to rush the cage door and be a pill to see what she can get away with I am not unhappy. Now to see how long it lasts.

Let's just hope she doesn't have the will, drive and stamina of an amazon.

turn your back when she does that. And remember that no animal will repeat an action that doesn't work for them.

Except my amazon. He's pretty persistent.

I have a good relationship with her owner and it sounds like she did the same thing to them. The only diff is I was able to pet her days earlier. Even throwing her fits she was still wanting pets.

Lola did that to me while I went to visit her the first time with Heather and she did that the second time as well. But I was able to get her on my arm while there both times. She was in the carrier while I scrub her cage and stuffs before bringing it inside the house. So she was in it for awhile, had no choice. I wasn't able to be there to watch her while she's out and about. Since she's new, I don't allow that. After we got her cage setup, I let her out and she had poppy on her from inside the carrier. So I actually took her in the shower with me the first day and she freaked out at first but did good afterwards. I couldn't allow her to have poopy on her feathers and feet. She did really well the very first night, second day she tested me. Then I had to bring out the training perch and got her to go on it to bring her out. I placed her on the play stand. Then I offered her the perch again and she stepped up, then I offer her my arm, she stepped up. After the 4th day I didn't need the training perch anymore as she was wanting to come out to me on her own. So I haven't used it since and she's been here over 2 months now. I'm so glad I said yes to adopt her cause she's a hoot to have around, she already learned all the dog's names and Willie's name. She learned to laugh like me and say bunch of funny words. She even learned my name. I was very very surprised when she called my name last week and then few nights ago when I just came home and walk into the living room and when she saw me she called out Michael right at me. It made my day when she did that! So I'm sure Paris will be like that with you soon!!!! :)

I just learned some stuff about Macs I did not know before. When they truly regurgitate , that is a lot of yuk! This time I accepted it and said thank you and wiped in in a napkin she then helped me shred. Then I found out when Macaws lick you kneecap it REALLY TICKLES! I have had both arms and knees licked, the more I laughed them faster she licked, and we walked around the house checking it out. We did have a disagreement about putting a hole in my new super soft blanket she wanted for her own. That ended it what could have been a nasty bite. My thumb nail aches but there was no blood and I really don't think it will bruise. For as piss as she was acting I was wondering if I was going to need it sewed back on! LOL I got her to stop and we did a few more things then I put her back in her cage. She is really coming out of her shell so fast! She had not wanted to eat the last couple days, except for the treats she was getting. When I put her back after our bonding time she went head first into her bowl and did not come up for awhile!

WOW, you are truly making AWESOME progress with your girl really quickly! :D (I admit, I cracked up laughing at the tickling tongue...)
