Hello. I have two green cheek conures for a total of four green cheeks on birds. I'm mostly new to having birds. I bought the first conure last week of November, 2018 and the second two weeks after that.
My goal is to learn about parrots and have a well-considered approach to interacting with mine. I think that having an understanding of a few fundamentals is key. For example I'm using clicker training and I think it's good because it is very clear communication with the bird.
Anyways, I'm mostly here to exchange information with people about training parrots and the more philosophical side of interactions.
About the birds: The first conure came from a home where it was socialized with parents and siblings, but not much with the human taking care of them. It was about 9 months old when I got it and wings intact. Within two or three days it was flying to me for treats and preening my fingers a couple of days after that, but doesn't know I'm good for scratches yet.
Second conure was in a local bird and fish store and had come from someone else's home. I hear it's about 4 years old. Wings clipped. I can't wait for the molt. It was really sweet on me at the store and that, plus seeing that first bird could use a same-species friend is why I bought it.
To anyone here: Hello, thanks for reading, and I look forward to learning from one-another.
