While at the vet's Saturday, I was talking to one of the techs that has Ekkies and she shared with me that she buys 15 bean soup packs, tosses the seasoning packet and will put the dry beans in a bowl with water and let them soar over night. I did it and both birds loved it. I think it's a great idea because of the variety of beans. I didn't soak the whole bag, just 1/4 cup and they made almost a full cup of beans once the water was soaked up. I thought this would be good to share.

Edit!! I left out, after soaking be sure to cook the beans!!!! Rinse first then put them on a low simmer.

I've been looking for the 15 bean mix. It seems like it would be very similar to the Volkman soak and simmer that I have for my fids. As Christine asked, do you cook it after you soak it? With the soak and simmer mix I soak overnight and then drain/rinse the beans and then simmer in boiling water until the beans are soft.

Thanks for asking about cooking Christine, I can't believe I left that out. Today I mixed beans with rice and both birds crowed down. Yesterday I juiced a mango, slipped some aloe detox and they were slurping it up! I loved watching them enjoy their mango juice, that was my first juicing, lol.

I just got the Aloe shipped to me Saturday . I tried beans at one time and he would not eat them. Plan on getting some this week and try again :)

Does BB eat rice?? That's how I get the good stuff down both, finely chopped fresh fruit and veg mixed with slightly warmed brown rice. They have their own rice cooker because we don't eat rice. If I make it, its for them and I make it 3/4 c dry (2 cups cooked) at a time. I put it in the fridge and when I make food, I heat up 2 heaping table spoons in the microwave then mix finely chopped fruit and veg with it.

He will when he feels like it. LOL Brown rice. Most things he eats he wants to hold so everything is in big chunks. Silly bird will even grab a talon full of his Fruitblend to eat it. I plan on trying some chopped up this week . He is starting to get picky. Wanting only fruit and no veggies except carrots

Where did you get the Aloe from? Is Aloe Vera juice good for them or is it just the Aloe detox that is good for them?
