Good evening!

I'm going to be updating this thread regularly with photos and whatnot of our single little Eclectus who is being hand-raised, starting today!
Don't really know what gender s/he is but for simplicity I'm simply going to call it a he. ^^

So today (Friday the 5th September) he is exactly 2 weeks old, and a little fatty! Mummy was certainly feeding him well that's for sure.

I usually do all the feeding on a towel in the middle of my large warm bed, however the bed was pre-occupied..
By all my papers I'd spread across it searching for a particular document. -_- It hath eluded thy gaze.. (did i spell that correctly?)

EDIT:
Forgot to add, in case anyone's wondering, that he's being raised on Vetafarm Neocare. BEST PRODUCT EVER! Well I've had huge success every time. :)

drlisaort: Yeah, I can't wait either! Especially if it's a she.. haven't raised a female before. :)

No he doesnt. My husband did want to take him out at hatching but unless something goes terribly wrong, I refuse to take any chicks out for hand-rearing before they are 2 weeks old. I CAN raise from hatching but I prefer not to... they are s small and fragile and anything can go wrong very quickly with babies that young.

Miss Mummy (Sen) has always had her babies pulled from the nest at 2 week to 5 weeks old (tops - she's never fully reared a chick unfortunately due to her previous owners) and she was feeding him well but was wasn't keeping him warm enough, so to be safe and to make sure he doesn't freeze we took him out earlier today.

I am sooo excited to watch this precious baby grow!! Thank you for letting us share in this, Kinny:)

No worries Terry! You guys and gals here are just so incredibly lovely, how could I not share his adorableness!? :)

Hehe Raven, or Julie, if I may call you that? BE A GIRL BIRDIE BE A GIRL!
Thank you :) and no problemo!

Never Mango, never! I don't want to send him to QLD...*snugs* But then my husband wants to keep a male as a pet, so then again.. BE MALE BE MALE!

Fed him again at about 1:30am this morning because he started squeaking and doing that adorable baby bird croaky squawk :p Then he slept perfectly with a few little squeaks here and there until 8:30am and then had another feed, he really knows what food is...which is more than i can say for some Conures I've raised haha.

My husband bought vinyl tubing for our syringe, even though I specifically said 'silicone'. I went to try it anyhow after the end had been rounded, but oh gosh it's just so hard it seems harsh to me to put that all the way down his soft little throat, so I've permanently bent the sides of our silicone spoon and it worked like a charm! His pumping reflex is amazing! Makes it so much easier to spoon-feed. <3

Love the pics and thanks for sharing. I've never seen a baby parrot this young outside of pics and I love learning things like this.

You can always call me Julie! :) I try to remember members names from the name thread too ;)

Awww thanks Timothy :)

Oh I hope so! Actually i have a feeling I'm not sure which gender I'd prefer now..O.O

Well he's weighing 120g with an empty crop, and 132g just after a feed. Absolutely loves snuggling on my chest/the skin at the base of my neck. Heat and a heartbeat always calms babies ;)

EDIT: Haha, Julie it is then! :)

I love this thread, Liana! I'll definitely be following closely. Thank you so much for sharing! And given how swiftly they develop at this stage, the age progression seen through the pics should be amazing!

Thanks Stephen ^^ It's also easier for me to keep track of progress instead of having to look in my Parrot Breeding/Raising notebook. (of which i keep records of hatch dates, notes of progress so when eyes are opened, any characteristics showing, behaviour, weight gain/dates/times etc) so when I'm looking for simple things like just weight, this thread is easier to navigate!)

125g now :) 5 grams... not a bad weight gain for 1 day. He has started to open his eyes now, and the instant he saw me he let out a huge baby squawk and almost leapt into my face for cuddles! We had a good little conversation for 10 minutes :p SO CUTE! No bird I've ever raised has reacted like that before.. *squeaks in adoration* Such a special little birdie! *is already attached*

EDIT: I'm starting to think it's a she.. the beak is slightly more black than it was yesterday. We'll see later on anyway :) just fun to guess!

Thank you both! :D

Going to post more photos a bit later today, he's changed again! And is opening his eyes a lot now so whenever he sees me he waddles closer to my face (yep, he can walk a bit now), and at one point he grabbed some skin on my hand and tried to pull it closer to him. SO CUTE and smart for such a little baby! *smooshes*

And he's such a little fatty! :p can never get enough food, so what does he do? Try and eat my fingers.. -_-

I just made a bowl of food consisting of 2 boiled eggs, half an apple, a half crushed/flaked cinnamon stick, a few almonds and some sesame seeds. It is my peace offering to Sen for taking her baby. I'm going to go get some peanuts, pinenuts, probably brazil nuts and banana when we next go to the shops. Sen is back to spending all her time, aside from eating, in the nestbox. So if she's laying more eggs this time I want to ensure she's got lots of nutrition.

I'll be uploading the photos shortly! (just need to feed baby birdie first).
