I was messing around with some paper cups and stumbled upon this - papercup carnations! :) I think it's quite pretty and I haven't seen it before. I hope you don't think I'm too presumptious just jumping on here with a tutorial and whatnot but I wanted to share how I did it, in case you want to try it for your fids. Here's what I did :

Start with two colours of paper cups (3 of each), a piece of rope, a small slice of cork (or nut or whatever), a pair of scissors :

Stack all the paper cups together and cut in the bends, from the edge to where the centre starts, every two or three bends. (That's my mom playing hand model there ;))

Cutting done and cork slice placed in the centre. Make sure you've alternated the colours of the papercups you're using.

Gather the papercups around the cork slice.

Tie the piece of rope tightly around the cork slice, pulling the papercup together.

Turn over, 'fluff' the papercup out a bit and ta-da!! ;). Papercups magically turned into a carnation :). I think I would make a nice foot toy or attachment to a busy board or activity basket.

Omg percy,
I really do love your creative ideas... maybe you should write a craft book for parrot owners??

Not too presumptious.... Too creative and cute :). Thanks for sharing, we will have to try these, pretty while the last for Ivory!!

Keep sharing these type of creative moments when you come up with something new!!!

Never be afraid to share a great idea! ;) Love it!!

Really nice. Might try making some of these for Cookie.

Nice:) I'll have to try this for Folger! He loves all things paper.

Totally love it! Please never stop sharing. All your stuff is awesome, and I agree with the person who said it was a good idea for you to write a craft book for Parrots!

Is all natural cork safe? And do you cut it yourself?

Birdymomma - these corks are made for sparkiling wine bottles and I was lucky enough to get a bunch of new ones from a vineyard I visited a while ago.

I also use wine corks (got some new too) that my sis saves for me. I cut off the first third of the cork that went into the bottle and wash them in warm water, dry in the oven.

I know there is an issue with certain cork, best google it. When using wine corks only use proper cork not that newfangled plasticy corks one gets in some wines.

Maybe I will explore this craft book idea ;). I'd never be able to start a toy business because making the same things over and over would bore me to tears :) so sharing my ideas in an ebook or something could be doable.

Edit to add - a book sounds like a big job LOL!! I think I will do a blog or FB page! Thanks for the idea, all.

Thank you! I am going to try my hand at these for sure. Eclectus love things to shred and tear so I am sure this will be a big hit!

I just made some and put nuts in the middle instead of cork:) Little foraging toys!

Okay, I have to try this...looks easy enough even for my very limited skills:) Thank you again, Michelle...and I would definitely subscribe to your FB page or blog!!!

Michelle -

A book is a good thought, earn some money for your creative mind!!! I would without blinking an eye buy a book on parrot toys for the craft impaired!!! But yep, I too would subscribe to a blog or facebook if you set one up.

Good idea, Starlight Night! I know which filters you're referring to but I can't get them here in SA (at least I've never seen them).

Riddick07 - we need to see PICS!! ;)
