What's the right time frame for this.

Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Two weeks ago a friend called me because she found what she thought was an injured parrot. Turns out the bird was "just" starving and dehydrated and perked up once she got food and water. I've been taking care of her and looking for her humans ever since. She's a great bird, and I'm having a hard time believing that somebody isn't missing her terribly. But despite tons of "found bird" ads, canvasing all the vets in my half of the county, posting on several internet and FB sites, and searching the "lost bird" ads as far away as Bakersfield and Yuma, AZ, (I'm in the southern part of San Diego) I have had no luck in finding any hint of where she may have come from. There's a small chance that somebody dumped her, because she was found in an area where there's a wild flock of her same species.

I'm not in a place where I'm ready to permanently take in a new bird. I have several people who I would trust, who have expressed an interest in meeting her and possibly giving her a home. But I'm unsure of the proper timeline for when I should start exploring those options. I don't want to give up too soon, but I want JellyBean to start forming attachments in a forever home sooner rather than later. I have no idea what the right balance here is. Any advice?

Oh, Beatrice!
William Shakespeare: Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
Me: Some are born parrot-saints, some achieve it, some have it thrust upon them. You're all three.
Wow. Just... wow. Good luck. Wow.
(Lucky bird)

As we both know, its better to quickly shift the Parrot to a Forever Home, ASAP! Let the new owner know that there is a chance the past owner may just show-up. That way they understand the reality of taking the Parrot!

However, the location you defined supports you're belief that the Parrot was dumped. It happens far more often then we would ever hope.

IMHO, you have done far more than what most would! Its time for this Parrot to being its new life.

Thank you for what you do!

Assume this is the bird? http://www.parrotforums.com/lost-found/71968-found-amazon-san-diego.html

I've heard about wild parrots in El Cajon and found this story/video: Flock of parrots flying around El Cajon - CBS News 8 - San Diego, CA News Station - KFMB Channel 8

Really a tough call. Since you tried a multi-disciplined approach 2 weeks ago with no response, my guess is you are near the point of rehoming as needed. Guess you could approach your contacts and take a slow approach the next week or so?

Wow, you’re amazing. Thank you! Love that you were there and stepped up to the plate.

Scott, you are correct. It's that bird.

Thank you for all of your responses. I've reached out to the first person on the list of people who would like to be considered for her permanent home. I'm waiting for her to text me back. We shall see what happens.

In my country (not that I own it ;) ) you have to post a lost animal for 3 days. If owner is not found, you can auction the animal off. I might not agree with that law, but I definately think you have done all you can and more.

I always get a warm feeling in my heart, when I read about people like you. Thank you for being you :)
