Big Bird _ Blue & Gold Macaw
BB lost his ever loving mind last night. He had been playing around his cage. I went to the cage and he came out for a head scratch... I put my arm out so he could step up . This insane bird went to the top of his cage. Stood very center of the top . Stretched and then YELLED> If no one has ever been two feet from a Macaw when they cut loose with that ever loving Macaw yell. Trust me it will cause your ears to ring . AND DID MINE. This went on for a good minute that seemed like forever. BF was on the couch with both hands over his ears laughing . NOT FUNNY> I turned went to the other end of the room and he stopped. I had no clue what caused him to do this at first.

I thought most birds used that for the Come here now. Then I realized what happened. When we adopted BB he would do this yell and after reading advice on how to stop them We would leave the room. So without realizing what we had done........... This yell is now used for . GET AWAY FROM ME I DON'T WANT TO MESS WITH YOU RIGHT NOW.

Just goes to show you can teach them something and not even realize what habit you are instilling in them.

Hahaha! I wonder if he's part of a human forum, posting proudly to his fellow parrots about how he finally taught his person to leave the room on command!

Maybe so LOL All I can tell you is that is the first time I have been that close to that sound and trust me........... He has me trained to leave

Oh Christine, I feel your ears...I mean pain. Now imagine double the pleasure...at the same time. :32:

Hilarious!!!

I've had Zoe do that while on my shoulder. Not fun! However, I admire BB for his training skills :)

See how quick us humans learn....just one scream and he's almost got you trained! He didn't even need to feed you a treat....

Yep, its real easy to accidentally train them to do things.

Try that same macaw scream at 3:00am when she's startled awake by a possum in the window...

That will get your attention!:D

...and your neighbors?? lol. I've heard it ONCE full blast at a bird store (B&G), as I was standing right near, and it practically blew my hair back . Absolutely unbelievably loud. That is why I about laugh when I occasionally hear people say certain 'quiet species' are loud.. uh no!!

The loveable yell of a macaw..my favourite...not. My neighbours must hate sissy in the morning( her cage is on the front porch) windows open lol

Actually we only have one close enough that it would bother. They think its funny . BF's Parents LOL Said they did not hear it . We live on the water so when he is on the deck and does any loud sound they say they can hear it 1/2 mile down the shore. I live on the Pamlico Sound.

The MACAW YELL! Yup! My neighbours just love starting their machines (chainsaws, mowers) early on weekend mornings). But now, I have the ultimate weapon: Just got a macaw a few weeks ago.
So, anyone care for a little MACAW serenade early in the morning to go along with your eggs and bacon? He,he...

Gotta love payback. Teach him to say I AM LOUDER

I have a good amount of hearing loss thanks to my time loading airplanes and those yells make my ears hurt!

It's hilarious that he has learned to tell you NO! GO AWAY! when you thought you were teaching him not to yell.

Reading this thread cracked me up. I can't even imagine.... I remember how excited I got seeing a cape parrot for the first time, until the sun started going down, omg!!! That's what I said OMG!! My ears were ringing.

I don't know how some of you do it, but you do, your dedication inspires me. And I am so happy to be a part of this forum. I read some of these posts to my husband over our coffee, we just laugh and laugh.

Well, honestly, hands down, my overall quietest bird is my greenwing...

When she does decide to assert herself, which is actually less than once a day, and more like once a week, she can shatter glass...

But on a day to day basis, she's very quiet and well behaved. She just doesn't take kindly to being startled by possums at the window at 3:00 a.m. :D

Normally I don't hear anything loud out of him. That is why I stood there in shock and deaf. Oh and it was not just one yell it was a full range of his Macaw talent to hit several pitches within 30 seconds.

Lol. I felt so bad for my grandmother. Phoebe had been caged alot this last week because I've been sanding and painting the house. I got home the other night, talking to my grandma on speaker phone. First thing I did when I got home was take Phoebe out of the cage and put her on the playstand. She steps onto the playstand and proceeds to perform the well known Macaw scream/screech. She's normally very quiet and never makes loud noises, but she had some pent up energy and frustration..and was happy to see me. So I am standing like 1.5 feet away from her, phone in my hand on speaker when she starts letting loose. To which I got the comment from my grandma "I don't know how you stand that freaking bird". Meanwhile..I was laughing. I had to walk into the bedroom so I could hear my grandma and to hide the fact I found it amusing..I didn't want to encourage the behaviour.
