Ok! So we've had Coco our eclectus and got our girl Tinker last night:). Just left the vets who says she looks and sounds great;). Gramstain results were good, a little yeast but probably due to stress from shipping! Blood work results will be in next week. If those are good can I end the quarantine??? We don't go back for follow up bloodwork 'til 2 months. Thoughts!!!! Tinker was in a closed aviary...

Until bloodwork and such are back, we generally always recommend quarantine, you just don't know what Tinker might have, or just be a carrier of that could harm Coco.

Better safe than sorry, I know it's a pain and you probably can't wait for them to meet and such, but hopefully bloodwork results wont take tooooo long, surely you can get the results over the phone or something and not have to wait 2 months for another vet visit?

Also, if all seems well with them, quarantine is usually around 4 weeks, so even if it's '2 months' for bloodwork, a month is usually okay. :)

Speak with your vet first, but usually it's fine and you can end the quarantine :)

Personally I would still keep up with quarantine!!!! :)

Please carry on with the quarantine not matter what the results
It is just not worth the risk
If something had to happen you would never ever forgive yourself

quarantine is a must. when birds are under stress, it's amazing what comes out, and it may be from weeks to over a month.

It's one of the hardest things for me to do, it actually drives me insane, remember this isn't about you, it's about your birds and what is best, I know it's hard!!....time will go by quickly and you won't regret it.

I thought I would ad one more thing, actually it was MikyTn who got me into quarantining my birds and sticking to it.....like I said in my previous post, it still drives me nuts!!!

Ok! So this quarantine thing is proving to be difficult!!! The room I was set up to quarantine our baby girl in is our 4 season room. Unfortunately the temps are too low right now. The next best thing was bringing her cage inside my office (has doors and is a ways away from where Coco is.). I have a 72x32x40 cage so since my hubby wasn't home my mom helped me carry the cage down then up into the house. Then I realized I had to take the door off to get it in. Once the door was off the cage still wouldn't get in because of our built ins!!! ARRRHGGG!!! So until my husband gets home I had to put he cage in the living room which is a little separate from Coco's cage. By no means is it "quarantine" though. I'm about to have a meltdown!!!! So now the only thing I can do is bring the cage back out to the 3-4 season room tonight with my husband and try to heat a little with a heater and close all the doors. But then...because of course there's a but! They are calling for 88 tomorrow!!! And I thought I had this all figured out !!! I really am doing all I can to do this quarantine thing right;(
