There's no mistake that Salsa likes his scritch-scratches...

What a sweet snugglebug! It looks like he's pushing his head right into your fingers/hand. :D And of course hearing the "oooh"..."ooooooh' is the sweetest part of it all. Give scritches for me next time, too, please.

Ha!! I love it! I guess we aren't the only species who can vocalize what feels good huh?
I guess not... he's certainly able to express his approval of pleasant sensations quite well.

Will do!

The funny thing about Salsa's "oooh's" is that when Terrie was alive she told me he just abruptly started making these sounds of enjoyment when being scritched, and that she didn't teach him to do it. She couldn't understand how or where he came up with the concept. Salsa was always a one-person bird and he was a baby when she got him. He was so young that she had to wean him off of his formula in fact. And he didn't start vocalizing his satisfaction of the scritches until he was well into his 3's. So go figure, I guess. It's a bit of a mystery ;)

Rea does that occasionally as well, just not all the time. Also, every time I try to pet her in her cage I can automatically expect that big ol' beak around my finger, thankfully she never bites down hard when she does it.

We are done closing on the house officially now so maybe I can relax a little and fire up the webcam and camera more often. :)

Very interesting! That tells me they have a natural inclination to vocalize feelings of pleasure in a human-like manner (or what I used to consider "human-like" - maybe in actuality it's both a human- and/or Greenwing Macaw-like manner ;))

So far, anyway ;)

Sounds great :)

another "quirk" both the GW's have..... when you start scratching their necks just underneath their beaks, both of them will squat down really low and then tilt their head way back and puff out their head feathers.... it's funky looking to say the least but they both love it, definitely need a pic of that!!

The Hahn's has a weird quirk as well, it involves head bobbing and a noise I can't put into words, I really need to film that, it's hilarious!!! And I can pretty much get her to do it on command most of the time. :)

MAC, our B&G loves his scritches but he does not vocalize.

He will move his head all over to make sure you hit the right spot though!

Omg, he looks like he has a big red Afro when he fluffs up, love it when he's like " oooh, ooh, oooooh "

Yep. Sals does that, too. He tilts his head back and upside down to make his under-jaw area as available as possible for receiving scratches there :)
