We're in the middle of a 2500 mile road trip. This is the first for Chewbaca, but Greybeard is an old hand at it. She rides most of the time on the seatback next to my right shoulder, or on my shoulder, while Greybeard is content on the wood grillwork on the top of the cage that's strapped to the back of the left middle seat. When we reserve at motels, we just say we have two birds in a cage. Well, at least we have them in the cage when they sleep. Most of the rest of the time is on the PortaPerches. Pets are free at Motel 6, but $20 each at Super 8. We haven't had to resort to either of those yet. We've been at the Coburg, Oregon b&b the last 3 nights, and it's only $20 more than the Motel 6. The owner's father found a CAG in a tree at least 20 years ago, and it was passed to his brother when the father died after 15 years.

We stopped at a store in Kingsburg, Calif, so my semi-Swedish wife could spend a wad. I entertained the family and passersby with the birds.

Multi-megapixels of pix were taken of our pair by some of the 50 odd people at my family reunion Saturday. I should have taken pix of that crowd, too. I've been promised pix by the semi-pro fotogs there, though.

From here, wifey wants to go home down the coast, while I'd like to go see friends in the Forgotten Sierra, near Quincy.

Very Cute! : )

Too bad we didn't get to meet Pookamama. We left the B&B in Coburg at noon on the 23rd.

The trip turned out great. We hiked with them in the "Avenue of the Giants" redwood forest park, and generally surprised the public with our two. Greybeard is standoffish, but Chewbaca is friendly to everyone.

We've been home a week now, and for 3 days Greybeard has been saying, "Hit the road, Toad; and Go bye-bye," so yesterday we took them running errands. After they shared our sandwich at an outside cafe, we went to the drive thru car wash. Greybeard didn't like that at all; it's the first time we've seen him really scared. We won't do that again.

Here are more pix from our trip:

This was one of those rare times when Greybeard goes back in the cage during the day.

After the first couple of nights we kept them together in the larger cage for overnight, covering it. They sleep wing to wing on the perch.

Mountain route between Yreka and Eureka. Greybeard is just visible where he rides on top of the cage.

Chewbaca's chosen place to ride. I have a small canvas bag over the headrest to keep her from chewing leather.

Too Cool, i take my birds everywhere also. They go crazy when they see me pick up the truck keys and my wallet. I only have to ask once,"Wanta go?"

One more sight on our trip:

They were right across the street from the house in Ashland my Dad built when I was two. You don't often see fawns with spots.

With trimmed flight feathers, a bird can ride where he likes:

This was on a trip from Rockford, Ill, to home. This guy and his friend got there on the airline at no extra cost, as wifey's emotional support birds. Yeh, we've hauled them with us for over 5 years now.

Love all of these photos! Looks like so much fun travelling with birds! I want to take my bird on a holiday in nov but I'm unsure of how I would go with her food and stuff! I especially love the photo of the mumma deer and her babies, too cute!

I got charged $20 per night extra by a campground to keep my Ekkie in our own RV. I asked the woman who charged me if she also charged the birds that lived in the trees on the grounds-LOL. That makes Motel 6 look great for us crazy bird travelers
