I've been so scared and in shock, abd nit really able to process...

Here is how it's gone down. Yesterday morning she was very active into mischief and eating. When I went to put her in the cage fir the night, was my first sign. Normally when I put her in the cage at night, she goes right for her seeds and munches. Last night she did not. I was like hmmm...but really did not think much of it.

This morning she was flat out sick! Puffed, squint eyed. I freaked. I got all her favorite foods and treats and offered to her. She wouldn't touch anything, turned her head. I put my radiant heat panel on her. Have her some doxyclin. Then made oatmeal to see if she would eat that. She are a very tiny amount. Then had explosive diarrhea. She slept all day at full fluff right in front 0f heat.
I gave her second dose doxyclin mid afternoon. Later she had one nirmal poop. Making her total of only 2 poops for the day. The big diarrhea one, and the Normal one.

I weighed her, she was her normal weight.

Tonight she was willing to eat a little warm oatmeal again. And looked brighter.

I finally got in touch with vet. Tomorrow she will call in several expensive medications she said, that I should expect to pay over 100 bucks. While we were talking a few minutes ago. I went to check on Penny, and saw she had eaten because she had put some food in her water like she likes to so. Penny chirped at me and looked better so I offered her a tiny crumb of toast and she grabbed it and ate!@"
So my vet said call her first thing in the morning, and if she isn't eating or seems still bad, we will switch meds and she will call everything in.

They only thing I think. Is she has really been making soup lately, making her water so gross!!! I change it all day long, along with all my other burds who make soup. Maybe I accidentally missed changing it??? Not the whole day I change all every morning!", then noon then night. But it's possibly I missed??? I have to change water all day long messy burds! I just dont know what else coukd make her sick. ..

Anyway I'm hoping that she us starting to feel better.......we will see tomorrow

And encourage you all to have a safe heat source ready if you ever have a sick burd.

Laura, you and Penny are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope she feels better!

Thank you. I wouldn't have posted at all if she was still as sick as she was most of the day, because I get so upset i can't even talk about it,, abd I couldn't get in touch with my vet..

Its been a scary day. She didn't make a peep all day, slept all day never ate, till tge oatmeal.

But she peeped at me when I checked on her while talking to the vet. And I just checked on her again, and she chirped st me again , which makes me so happy!! I'm hoping the big diarrhea and must have had tummy sche are better now. She wasn't squint abd looked much better..........I can't wait till morning comes, abd I see if she eats , and isn't all puffy. I've never had one of my burds so full out puffed

Oh no, sweet darling Penny! I hope and pray it all turns out well, but I am so sorry you two are going through this, Laura. All my very best wishes and positive vibes heading your way :smile015:

Thank yiu she is my sweet girl.
I was actually so happy to see the diarrhea, cuz at least then I knew which system was sick....when I first saw her so sick I was like what in earth!! Did Blue Boy bring some sickness to my house!!! Because he is the only new thing.....so I was trying to run through all the horror things it could be..
I'm having to stop myself from going over to her csge every few minutes....

I was telling my vet how did this happen?!! She said with birds it just can , and we don't always know why. I told her about the soup, but she said doesn't have to be that, sbd she knows I take good care of my babies

Tomorrow I will give her yogurt, she hasn't had any all month. I had my mom just drop some off.

Its so scary to see one so sick. As tgey usually hide being sick!@@ i was afraid she was going to drop dead......

When Tadah was sick 2 years ago it was so subtle, that tge vet I took her to was like she is not sick! But she was, she had a yeast overgrowth.. abd had lost 4-6 grams.

And Burt The Burd passed without me knowing he was sick years ago....

So seeing Penny so full out classic sick.....I was soooo afraid.....im still pretty badly shook up....but I think she improved by this evening

Oh I hope she has, Laura! Absolutely no worse feeling in the world than worrying about a sick baby. My Lilly had a bout of vomiting a few months ago and I was absolutely terrified! Whizzed her down to the vet who could find nothing in particular wrong with her, so I suspect it was just that she was so hungry waking up first thing in the morning that she was wolfing her dry powder mix down so fast that it was getting stuck in her throat and she brought it all back up. Switched back to giving her wet nectar mix in the mornings and happily she has not had a problem since. Hoping that whatever is up with Penny is similarly minor, and I am praying for the two of you and holding you both in my heart.

:( I'm sorry you are going through this and I will be thinking of you guys. Glad she ate a little-- it's the worst feeling though...Here's to more peeping and food! Hang in there!

Dang - sending positive thoughts for you and Penny!

Oh Penny, hope you continue to improve! Sorry to hear this Laura, seems you immediately reacted and are doing the best possible until meds received. Dearly wishing for better news Thursday!

Penny is still pretty sick. As soon as new meds are ready I will go get.

Doxyclin is bsctrostatic, keeps bacteria from multiplying, and allows body to deal with infection.

But what Penny needs is an antibiotics that kill the infection.

She is a little better ( ish) had a nirmal poop, ate a few beak full of yogurt, ate 3 tiny carrots shreds, and a couple if beak bites of cooked egg whites. Really micro amounts. Then is back at full puff asleep right in front of radiant heat panel....

I'm soooo worried

Poor baby. It's so scary when they're sick. Hope the meds will help her get back to her happy, healthy self quickly. She couldn't be in better hands. Continued prayers and healing vibes, my friend.

The question of where the sickness came from is more likely from us as we walk outside for any number of reasons. Unless one goes though a full toxic clean-up when we reenter our home, we carry all the great outdoors in with us. I'm not recommending such, but the reason that the 'common' flu has been near zero during this fall and early winter is the efforts we have paid to avoiding the monster virus. Add their immune system being for any number of reason weaker than normal and an illness occurs.

Sorry that Penny is not well, with great hope, she will react positively to the medications.

Our Parrots are a central part of our life and when they become ill, it deeply effects us...

Huge, warm Amazon feather hugs and prayers your way dear friend!

z-pacs are MY personal favorite (for me)-- so hoping it does the trick for your baby!

Penny has developed right eye squint, and right nostril is wet, abd she is itching it.

She is spending most of the day sleeping and fluffed.

But I bought her a special treat sticks, and she has been eating at that here and there. And went to her food bowl once, but didn't stay long. Im going to fix her some warm food.

I talked to vet an updated her on nostril drainage and eye squint. She said this medicine is great for respiratory stuff.

I'm very worried still as.90% time is sleeping fluffed. But she is willing to come see me when I check in her, yesterday she didn't move. And She said Hello to me, and gave chirps and wing shrugs. That's much better than yesterday....

Sending many more prayers and healing thoughts from our side of the world, Laura. Sweet Penny is a fighter and you are an amazing parront. I hope Penny gets some restful and restorative sleep tonight.
