These are some photos of the little platforms i built for my rosella with a twisted leg. She does have a perch as well but these make it easier for her to really rest and sleep. I used untreated pine to make them and used beeswax and linseed oil to seal the wood to protect it a little. I change the handtowels on a daily basis (at longest) to ensure she is not standing in her own poo. She loves them! To attach them I drilled holes in the back, through the base and screwed in some 100mm pieces of 1/4 inch thread from the hardware store. These go through the bars with washers and wingnuts on the outside to keep them firm. If anyone needs more measurements I have them as well.

They look absolutely fantastic, but please allow your bird to use branches for perches as well... May need bigger/smaller ones than normal for that bird...

Yeah, I have a variety of perches that are all natural wood. I only use dowel perches in an emergency if I have nothing else. She has a larger natural one in her cage which she is practicing perching on but she is still really young and wobbly, hence the platforms, so she doesn't have to strain all the time she can just rest. It helps with preening as well since trying to do it on a perch currently really puts her off balance. I will graduate her to a bigger cage with more perches and maybe only one platform when she gets older and more competent.

I work with disabled children as well. They always amaze the people in thier lives that underestimate them so I get what you mean. I'm more just easing Dara into the tricky things that bit slower than I normally would.
