I've now got a Nanday in my house. I am not sure how long this will be, it is definitely temporary to help my out a bit with some sudden things.

Of course right now he is terrified...tonight I plan on getting him out starting some relationship building things...

Not sure what this post is for..

Anything I need to know?
Right now he eats pellets in the morning and kept in his bowl all day.
He also has chop for lunch and in the evening.

I weighed him this morning and he was 135 grams. I believe he is 6 months..but I will get the paperwork and stuff tonight.

His name is West

Conure West

LMAO @ his name! Conure West, hey? Too funny!:D

Sorry, my friend, I have no experience with Nandays (other than knowing they can be a tad bit 'noisy', so I'll let more experienced parronts chime in for ya) ;)

AND....we need at least one picture of West...please? :21:

A nanday conure is just a shrunken macaw.

Same basic behaviors, smaller package.

You got this.

You forgot to mention the 'different' screech level though, Mark. :54: I already told Stephen that Kyleigh might start imitating Kanye...I mean Conure West before he knows it...... :52:

Best of luck with Conure West, Stephen! I hope everything works out well for your mom too.

We must have recent photos of your growing flock!

My 2 Suns & GCC all react extremely well to positive feedback (better than 2 of my dogs, lol, "gird bird" and a sunflower seed do wonders). Super snugly. ALWAYS in trouble. Usually very very LOUD. Very sensitive feelings, really curious, love cuddles, will leap large bounds for a yummy treat, etc. etc.

Just trying to cover what 1st came to my mind for 911-conure. Kind of funny when I read back on it. Sounds like you have a ton of experience so no doubt you will be fine.

Wish you the best. I am by Noooooo means experienced, but kind of like a mom who has been there and done that as far as conures (for the basics).

...umm, just thinking, don't freak if the noise level suddenly goes up. It will get better. That has been my experience. They are super quiet, then super noisy, then tolerable to some degree.

I am so happy someone got the Conure West joke...Most people don't get it at all...which leaves me laughing and cracking up all to my lonesome. My mom is so heartbroken right now, I've got a feeling I will have West for a while. So, heres the scoop on him. Admittedly so, my mother spent way more time and training with the Quaker and West got a lot of alone and cage time. He is scared of hands at the moment, makes loud noises, and bites anything that comes within 50 feet of him lol. I asked my mom about it and she said he has been biting ever since coming home from the breeder. I asked the breeder, and she said that yes he is quite a biter.

I tried the whole "come out of your cage on your own method" just to see what happened. Nothing. I walked in, gave him some treats from my hands, then moved the treats further back so had to touch my hand in order to get the treat. Boom! It worked and now we are stepping up. That is all the progress I want for this week. To step up, and maybe a head scratch or so. I will say, once I am seated and watching basketball on TV..he runs to my shoulder and starts preening. So, he is somewhat comfortable. Kyeligh is being a jealous baby..I make sure to take her our the aviary first...give her hugs and cuddles, treats and kisses...then I can have her play (she is becoming very independent when I need her) ask I work with West. I love love love my mom, but I have a strong feeling that West will be staying with me for a little bit. He didnt scream at all last night, I peeped in and he was sleeping. Good sign because he didnt sleep the first night.
