Just wondering what types of games ya'll play with your Amazons. I have a 4 yr old DYH, her favorite game just seems to be outsmarting me lol, and sadly she does win most of the time. She has only been with us for about a month, things are going pretty good so far, just thought that playing games might help us bond a little better, and when i try peek a boo she looks at me like i'm a mental patient lol.

Amazons LOVE games...well, both of mine do. :)

I play peek-a-boo, upside down birdie, swing them and tumble them (they love it rough), roll them around on the couch, give them foot toys while they're on the couch and they throw them off, just to name a few. We mostly make games up, all depending on how rough they want it. :) I think it's a GREAT way to keep them entertained and to bond even closer.

hopefully i can do most of that soon:) sweet pea won't let me touch her other than to pick her up and put her down, i get crazy looks for peek a boo lol, she does find entertainment in me dancing all around and singing when i'm trying to get her to sing or dance lol, and she just recently started preening my hair, and we also do tug of war (gently of course) I can't wait to get to that point with her :)

Oh yes, singing and dancing together is the most fun of all. ( I lovingly calling "Amazon party").

Here's a little preview....HAHAHAHAH

I LOVE IT :), he is so handsome! So far i have only heard sweet pea sing lolli pop, and i learn that she can say new things everyday, I don't and will never regret not getting a baby, but i do wish i could have met her previous owner

Hahahahahaha............I do the same thing..........
But I decided to take a break from doing it yesterday and played Bob Dylan for her. She LOVED it!!!!!! Of course it's so much better than me singing........... LOL. Also, maybe because he is playing harmonica or most likely because her original owner was a guy. I know that for sure because she came to me with the paper trail going all the way to the hatching. She goes crazy when she hears men talk. It breaks my heart to think she is not going to be as happy with me as she could be with him.

I was told sweet pea originally belonged to a man as well, i feel the same way sometimes, she responds better vocally to my husband than me, but she won't really step up for him, she also loves my kids and i spend a ton of time with her, she comes to work with me. I'm not sure how long you have had your amazon, but i think they'll come around and love us :)

Up until recently, we mostly played "keep away", with Skittles being the Grand Champion! Within the last week, I've been able to grab his beak, he starts doing this "snakey" thin with his head followed by grabbing my fingers with one foot and his beak. I've almost got his to his back a couple of times. When we start to play like this he gets very animated, but not aggrewssive.

This morning I took my son's advice, I encircled him from behind with one arm and crowded him till he stepped up to my other hand. Within a foot or two of the cage, he wants to get back to the cage (I think he has a magnet imbedded in his BUTT). Once I stepped away from the cage he settled down. I did surprise him by holding on to his feet with my thumb so when he tried to fly back to the cage he couldn't get off my hand. (I'm heading to McDonald's to use their WiFi to upload photos to Photobucket, so I can brag about FINALLY geting him off the cage!)

I'm sure playtime will get more exciting as we continue to move to the furniture and the floor (just have to keep the Yorkie under control, LOL)

Most zons are happy just been there with you, perching on your shoulder and preening your hair so, if that is what yours want to do, let her. You don't need to play games to bond - birds in the wild certainly don't. And they all love music and singing BIG TIME (they like to sing opera-like -LOL)

I don't know if Amazons in the wild play games or not, but I invite you to come to my house and watch my 2 Amazons play with each other - it's quite the show. And I firmly believe active interaction/game playing and even trick training will strengthen the bond to ANY parrot. :)

George the YCA used to like to play "Where did George go?" which was a version of peek-a-boo. He also used to like to have me pretend to sneak up on his cage. When I'd do that, he would do an imitation growl and then would laugh. :)

I have a hen nape that's 43 now, i've had her since 3 wks old. it doesn't matter what i want to play ,she game. It's the interaction that matters. BTW her favorite game is "Footsie" where i try and grab her foot.Or "i;m gonna get your butt" , that's another big hit. They just need to know they;re loved and a part of the flock. Oh Yeah , i forgot about" that's trouble" don't mess with that, of course that means i'm going to test your resolve, and did you really mean i can't have it.

Awww such lovely posts :) my little kiwi also has a game of her own, she puts her head into the sleeve of my long sleeved shirt and rubs against the fabric until I scratch her head, if I make her wait too long she makes little noises but once the head scratching begins she purrs like a kitten :) she also seems fond of climbing onto my shoulder and preening my hair, which I find a bit ticklish lol

Sweet pea does enjoy sitting on my head and preening my hair, i'm getting a bit more comfortable with it, i guess i'm a little nervous about her being so close to my face, i have heard its not a good thing to do with any larger sized bird....thoughts on this?

If you think wild amazon don't play in the wild , you've never seen them before. They spend about half the day fighting and playing with each other.

Bosley loves the foot/beak game. I try and get his foot or beak and he tries to nip me LOL
He also loves playing catch with a ball, and he likes the mom follow me around game or I'm going to chew and get into everything I'm not supposed too LOL

Emmy does that, too. She rolls over on her back and kicks at her toys. On the couch, though, she likes to sit on my leg, or a pillow on my lap. She'll throw herself on her side, then she'll roll off the pillow, then start squawking. I'll be like, "You did it, why are you squawking?"
