We have bought numerous cuttlebone holders for pearl and she keeps ripping off the little arm that holds the cuttlebone in.Could I use a zip tie and fasten it to the bars of the cage?I was afraid before because I was worried about the plastic.Lately I've had to buy the smaller cuttlebones and stick them in behind the latch that holds her food bowl in.She can still get it out but the cuttlebone is destroyed in one day because of its size.

Thanks:grey:

I have the strong black plastic ties holding the playstand on top of the cage!! Codie has never yet been able to even make a dent in them!! Thats how strong they are :D

Zip ties are a great tool for small beaks but not sure about the larger ones. I use them all the time.

Okay thanks!I'll see if it can hold the cuttlebone in tomorrow.I was just worried that the plastic could be harmful to them because of what it was composed of or small pieces. But I don't think she would be chewing at it she'd be more focused on the cuttlebone. Thanks again.

I use zip ties in almost all of our cages and *knock on wood, have never had a problem arise. Make sure that you cut the excess off and that it's not sharp in any way that an eye can get poked or anything. Check it for wear, if he starts to chew on it, I would cut it off and replace it, they can become pretty sharp if they get a point on them.

I use a soft SS "tie wire". Drill 2 small hole though the cuddle bone and wire it to the cage.

You can drill a cuttle bone? they seem so fragile, I have dropped them, not from very far either, and had them shatter into a ton of pieces. I opened the box of one two weeks ago and it was already broken in the box, just from shipping

There are drill bits for ceramic tile that might work better, IcyWolf. I haven't tried that so I can't really say. I used to have these great clips for cuttle bones. They had like a metal jaw that grabbed them tightly, and they attached well to the cage bars. But, eventually they all broke and I have never seen them anywhere again. So I went to the zip ties.

This may seem dumb but does it matter if they're colored?lol

I have a big bag of red and green ones maybe some black.

I look for them all the time, but so far no luck! One lasted about 10 years and just broke this fall. The others lasted a pretty long time, too.
