Hi everyone!

This is probably just me being overprotective, but is it normal for a young tiel to sleep a lot, especially after meals?

Abby is just over three months old. She gets up with the other birds in the morning and participates in the morning scream fest, chases me to the bathroom when I go to prepare her formula, eats, and then takes a nap. She gets a boost of energy around noon it seems like, and will run around, play with toys, flap her wings, etc. She also has 24/7 access to food and water, and her poo seems normal.

I know babies of all species tend to sleep a lot, I'm paranoid though.

(Pictured below is the Abinator demanding a cuddle while she naps)

I'd say it's fine and normal, but I'm to busy going awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww so adorable!!!!!!!

Abby is stunning! If you have any doubt, a visit with a certified avian vet with some baseline testing will clear your mind. That said, it may be perfectly normal for such a young bird to sleep a lot!

Thank you!! I can't wait til she's grown and her flight feathers come back in...

Her weight and everything is good, and she was at the vet not too long ago and they said she's healthy. I think I'll hold off, it's just good to know it's common!

(Here's another picture of her because I wanna show her off lmao)

You can expect to see some weight loss when he/she starts to fledge.

Young birds do sleep more than adult birds but as stated above it does not hurt to get a professional opinion.

I would guess you have a whitface pear cockatiel. very beautiful.
your bird has the appearance of a male but at this age I don't know for sure.
If it's a male the pearl marking will be mostly lost at the first molt and the bright with face will stay.

If female the pearl will stay and the face markings will become more grey.

enjoy your lovely Tiel.

She's eating formula and pellets/seed at almost an equal amount now actually! I'm hoping to minimize weight loss and just wean slowly. (Long story short- bad past experience)

If I notice any other issues I'll take her in immediately. For now I just wanted to make sure it's somewhat normal. She was in to see the vet not too long ago.

Close! She's a whiteface pearl pied. Thank you! I was told generally cockatiels her mutation are female. You could be right though, honestly she's acting very much like a male and I'm afraid she's going to turn out to be. I already have one bird with a name of the opposite sex haha

Again, thank you!!
