River (RiverSong) --> Blue and Gold Macaw
River has gotten to where she acts like she's trying to Regurge.... For the past 3 or 4 days now.
She hasn't thrown up anything yet, but its like when she gets excited or when I come home and let her on her playtop and give her scritches, she starts bobbing her head like she's going to regurge on me.

I know birds do this when they're hormonal... like during mating season and all, but she's not even 6 months old yet. Is this just a sign that she's happy? Excited?
I dont want to encourage her to do this, but I know it can sometimes be a sign of love? trying to feed the other person, right?
Dont want to sound silly, but I also dont want to hurt her feelings if it is a sign of affection.

Any info/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

If she is only do this when she is excited or with you - than I wouldn't be too concerned, as it more than likely is just that - a sign of affection. We are approaching breeding season. My cockatiel is already starting to make those 'annoying' mating noises she makes (like a screeching cat).

My only concern would be whether or not your bird is having issues digesting food. I'd observe the behavior and make a note on when it happens each time. If it is all a behavioral thing, just do as you mentioned - don't encourage it - but also, don't punish the bird for it. My sun conure loves to regurgitate on towels, tshirts and what not. WHat I do is when he starts doing that - I snap my fingers or tap on the table to distract him. You may want to try that. By doing this you are breaking them of that behavior without having to confuse the bird by telling it not to do something that comes naturally - such as regurgitation etc.

Yea, she only does it after I've been playing with her or giving her kisses/scritches.
I'll keep a close eye on her and make sure I don't see any head bobbing while I'm not by her and ask my family to keep an eye on her when I'm at work and class.

Thank you so much! =)
I appreciate it

I love you and I am happy to see you.

That's all it is. And it's entirely normal for them to do this.

I agree, it is love and affection.

Rosie, my GW does this all the time. I usually say I'm not hungry, and then distract her. Bc for me, it is gross when a nice hot wet bunch if nuts hits your hand. ;)
