So in total 18 days in egg ? Plus how many more days ?I know one of u cleaver people can help me .
Thanks heaps .

Are you trying to wean one yourself? Or are you just wondering how long it takes before you can have the baby home? It can vary from bird to bird, some babies can be stubborn to wean off formula while others wean very quickly. It can take anywhere from 2-4 months. I typically wait a bit longer before allowing a baby to go to their new homes. Because I do training after weaning. Some of the bigger parrots can take longer as my macaw will not give up on formula until he was 6 months old, that's what his previous momma told me....But I think she had issues....lol

You wouldn't try to hand rear from day one unless you were really experienced with hand rearing first. The chick would most likely die.
If the parents can look after it them let them, you can handle the chick each day. Three of my chicks are still tame ( they are in the aviary with everyone else ) and I did that.

conures usually wean at about 12 weeks old.

Three months ago l payed deposit for sun conure , breeder said bird passed away when l asked for money to be tansfered to differant breeder he said another pair are on eggs , l phoned twice to here how things are going have not heard back from him SO l needed an idea as to what is a reasonable time for me too wait . Now in Austrailia is the breeding time and l am sure someone else may have sunny for sale so whan l speak to him l need to know what l am talking about ..
Also l would never try to hand rear a bird , l would take it to my vet and pay him , also l am not into breeding birds , l just would love a companion bird ..
Thank you for your reply !!!!!!!!

From the time the first egg is laid to hatch is 24 days. From hatch to wean approx 12 to 14 weeks. So the whole process takes approx 4 months give or take.

Hope this helps.

Brighteyes, the suns are only just starting their breeding NOW (according to a breeder I know). Cos of the warmer weather we have been having in Melbourne, they are starting a bit earlier than usual. So from what I understand you will need to wait another 4-5 months for your baby. Is the breeder you are going with in Melbourne or a warmer part of the state, which means you could get your bird earlier.

But a light at the end of the tunnel . It has pin feathers l was told to-day . Hooray !

Yay, brighteyes is FINALLY getting her baby. Yippee! Have you started thinking names yet? I live near Carrum Downs, is that where you are getting it (your post said Carrum, not sure if they are the same place) Have you got cage, toys, perches sorted yet? Know of a good avian vet? You only have 5 weeks, better hurry up, so much to do, so little time LOL
