would it be safe to get a parrot transported from interstate?

hi everyone,
a future opportunity has come up for me in future to get a bird from interstate as there are not many/any breeders in the state i live in, and i wanted some advice as to if people think its safe/ a good idea to do so.

People ship parrots interstate often, from breeders or bird stores. Unless there is a state prohibition on a given species ( like Quaker parrots in N.J.) should be no issue.
