Worst weekend ever

As some of you may know my gf and myself recently acquired an amazing TAG named Gandalf. Well we live in a condo and me and Gandalf are best buddies we do everything together. However on Saturday we were at my parents house celebrating Mother's Day early. After having some snacks we decided to bring Gandalf out to the screened in porch to gang with us. Here comes me being an idiot, not even thinking I brought Gandalf onto the deck on my finger with no harness. Immediately she flew away and I lost sight of her, saying I was crushed was putting things lightly. To make a long story a little shorter we stayed at my moms for a few days hoping she would come back but nothing. Finally yesterday she flew right to me and started to snuggle as I ran her inside. Gandalf is doing well for being in the wilds of NH, she is a little skinny but we are working on fattening her up. Now to move onto the eclectus topic of is story. I have always said I would only have one bird because Gandalf is a little needy but that looks like that will be happening after all. My mother whom I love dearly likes to buy gifts for people when they are sad. Well she wasn't too optimistic that Gandalf would come back so she bought an adorable male eclectus from a local shop that we frequent a lot. I always said that if I didn't have Gandalf that I would love an eclectus, well now I have both, or will have both. My mom bought him for me with out telling me to cheer me up. Now even though he wasn't in the plans I am extremely excited to have them both. He is still weaning and won't be able to come home for 2-3 months, so it gives Gandalf time to reacclimate to home. We are going to see him tonight, we were going to bring Gandalf but we are going to let her stay home and settle down more and hopefully bring her when we go see him Saturday. So now for the important part the pictures!!!,

O ya our new addition is named Teddy because he acts like a big green Teddybear.

Sounds like the worst weekend but best Monday ever to me

Gandalf returned home safely (which is a rare thing for an escaped parrot) AND you got a precious new baby! Teddy is absolutely adorable! I bet him and Gandalf are going to become good buddies.

Thats what we are hoping even though 2 birds were never really a thought i think that it will benefit gandalf having a friend for when we are not home. Also they are only like a month apart in age so hopefully getting them together early on will aid in a lieftime of friendship.

The younger you can get them together, the better. Especially if you set the boundaries of positive interactions with each other when they are still learning as juveniles.

If you haven't considered it already, IMO, any parrot who will remain flighted should be recall trained. Even if you never free-fly them outdoors and harness train them too, it's still a good idea to practice recall indoors (and training them to fly down from high places, as many lost birds simply get up high and can't come back because they can't fly down because they never learned). In the event something like this happens again, you have a cue to call the bird back, and the bird knows what to do when it hears the cue. Recall trained birds have a much higher recovery rate than birds who just fly away.

I really don't think age has anything to do with whether they will get along or not. My sennies are siblings and they would like to eat each other.

I would assume they won't get along, plan for it and if they do get along consider it a blessing.

I am so thrilled that Gandalf came back! whew, I was worried when I saw the thread title.
What a sweet Mom you have! Teddy is a gorgeous baby, congratulations!!

We are so thankful she came back not only are we relieved she is safe but now we can actually enjoy Teddy without the worry about gandalf.

Wow, what a scary experience you and your precious Gendalf had last week. I can't even begin to imagine how frightened for her you must have been. I'm glad the story has a double happy ending with a new parrot to add to your lovely family. Yay!!!

How lucky she came back! Your Mom is wonderful to find you another bird so quickly! Well, now you have two birds and twice the fun!
