:52: Lordy have any of you had these moments where your husband steps in after a few years and thinks he is gods gift to "birds" LOL I love him and i know he loves our birds. But that Man is driving me crazy ! WE got a new cage yesterday "yes it is a perfect size for a cockatoo, but we got it for our Amazon so he would have lots a room. When i got Loki i got him a Macaw cage  ( i really have no clue about sizes on paper ) I was stuned when it showed up at the house LOL BUT i thought hmm a forever home .... how large ! He loves it. He can have 1000 toys and still Fly around. My Husband ... Wants a MACAW, So do I, but he wants to now put Loki's cage in storage so he will forget about it alittle and give him the "new cage" cause our amanow cage is still in good shape.

Loki is a very sensitve boy :21: bless his little wings, i just dont know how he will take it, if he see's something else in his cage. I dont hink he will ever forget ! Nor do i think he will ever like a new cage. I might be wrong. :10: Has anyone had any experance with this before ? and if so has your bird been ok with this?

Keep in mind Loki is I like to call him the Gilagin of the bird world. Loveing, funny, willing to do just about anything once, maybe twice but brains we are still in the baby stage. He still thinks he needs to be a baby.

I personally wouldn't move a parrot who's happy in their current cage to a different (especially a smaller!) cage unless there was a VERY good reason. If the cage is safe and he's comfortable in there, that's his home and it's unfair to just take that away from him because your husband wants to house another bird in in and downgrade Loki into smaller accommodations. Just my viewpoint, but the needs and personality of every bird you have currently should always be considered carefully before any new birds come home. If you have no room for a second macaw cage or don't want to spend the money or whatever the reason, don't punish Loki for it and don't punish your amazon who was getting an upgraded cage either.

Perhaps your husband could look into the very adorable mimi-macaws ;) Then he could still have a macaw who would be a good fit in your amazons old and now unused cage. Loki and your zon and your husband will all be happy and that's a fair solution to everyone.

Thats what i said to ! There is tons of room for two macaw cages in the room. I think im going to have to put my foot down on this one ! I dont want Loki to get the short end of the stick its not fair and un needed aswell.

I agree with Kiwi - there must be a VERY good reason for moving a happy bird into new digs, especially if those new accommodations are less than what he's used to.

Let's hope hubby comes around soon.

Oh yes i must say this to the Macaw thing is not ever happening Aslong as Loki is still recoving !

I think bigger is always better when talking about cages. Who cleans the cages regularly? The parrot and housekeeping staff should have the final word.

Seriously though, we have a very emotional cockatoo and we moved him into a new cage when we brought him home. He liked his cage immediately. We also upgraded our smaller bird's cages and one of our quakers gave up his cage to a new tiel. Both the quakers had a new cage, amazingly they traded. The cages are about the same size and the first three days after the cages were set up, they both went to the other's cage at bedtime. It amazed me, as quakers tend to be very picky about their rooms. They both seem happy with their decision. :)

Critterman..,, things are not going wrong..... Loki (typed Sophie first!!!) is happy as anything.... hes bouncing back wonderfully from surgery....

Glad Loki is staying in his home:D and I'm sure you can squeeze a second macaw cage in for when your hubby gets his macaw;)
