Cheddar the GCC
Howdy y'all, ive had my new birb baby ( A GCC named Cheddar) for a few months now so he is around 5-7 months old now. My wife and I got through his first molt alright and he really is everything I could have asked for. But I have a question about his beak. Its been flaking normally but recently i helped him with my nail and chipped a tiny bit of both his top and bottom beak. There were no squeels of discomfort and even now he seems perfectly normal but the color difference worries me. Please tell me im just overreacting

Welcome to you and gorgeous Cheddar! That sure is one mightily cute photo!!

I’m really not sure if you have a problem, but I have never had any bird that reqired any kind of treatment or grooming of their beak so I’m no expert.

Has Cheddar been to see a certified bird vet yet? I know mine was a wee bit cranky with me for not taking him in sooner when I had him... that’s really the only way to know for sure and either put your mind to rest, or get treatment if it is required. I’m sure other far wiser heads than me will chime in soon :)

Again a warm welcome to you!

He's not been to a vet yet but he will soon. Thank you for your reply nonetheless. Cheddar appreciates the flattery :)

what a cute lil fella!

His top beak looks in really good condition, the bottom one looks like he may have rubbed it a tiny bit much but nothing serious to me, still looks very prim and proper. Ask at the vet just to be 100% but right now I would avoid panicking!

Thanks for the reassuring words. As to the panicking ill work on it :)

If there is more loose material -> you get that very light look (if your bird has a dark beak).

I de-flaked Sunny's beak a few times, she appreciates it (I think) -- she is more active with chewing wood and using her nail-wear-down perch (sorry forgot the propper term) to clean and shape her beak and now needs no more help.

An update is in order. Through the night and during this morning Cheddar proceeded to round off all the corners on his favorite perch and the white on his beak is no longer there. Thank Y'all for your speedy replies and kind words. And how did you know I was from Texas GaleriaGila?

Top right part of each post shows your location.
It's nice of you to include that info in your info. Many people neglect to put it in and all are left wondering where in this big old world you hale from.

Saves having to ask and wait for the reply to an urgent question.
